The 41st Annual Wings Over Camarillo Air Show

Sunday, August 21, 2022

Before we start talking about today's great day at the 41st Annual Wings Over Camarillo Air and Car Show, let's take one more quick look back at some new photos from last Friday night's Thousand Oaks H.S. 50th Anniversary Football reunion.

RB/DB Tim Ahtye brought the helmet
that he wore and procured back in the day

OT/DT Chris Pruitt and OG/OLB Kirby Reed brought the 1972 Thousand Oaks H.S. souvenir programs from that wonderful season.

In the TOHS Quad stands the statue of
"Lance" the Lancer

Posing in front of Lance after their shared Mile Run ordeal are OT Stewart Black, Kirby Reed and OT Greg D'Haenens.

Is it legal for these youngsters
to be having a beer?

The annual Wings Over Camarillo Air Show that also includes a Vintage Car Show signals the end of Summer and the return to school for local children and teachers.

It has always been a fun way to end the Summer Vacations of so many people.

As we entered the Camarillo Airport,
we found that the U.S. Marines had set up a mini-bivouac

The Ventura County Ninety-Nines Club

Jacob is number 99 on the Camarillo Stings roster and his favorite NFL player is the Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald who also sports #99.

The Ninety-Nines Club is for female airplane pilots and is so named because in 1931 when famed flyer Amelia Earhart was named the club's first President, their were but 99 charter members.

A WWII Jeep offered
Jacob several possibilities

First as a Medic driving the jeep

Wait, I thought Medics
couldn't be armed?

German WWII helmet

Not one but two machine guns
at his disposal on the jeep

Michael photo bombing.

Tons of WWII based paraphernalia
was on sale in various booths

An early Soviet jet perhaps a MIG

American prop planes

Jacob by a Japanese aircraft

A Marine Corps bomber

Jacob would LOVE to use
this jet pack for real!

Jacob about to launch the
mini-drone in his hand

It's FLYING!

Next year at this time, Jacob will
be entering the Middle School

flight simulator

Here Jacob is in control of
the robot you see doing donuts

An old wooden propellor

A MUCH more advanced
WWII propellor

A HUGE transport plane

This transport flies because
of its four massive engines

How much cargo can fit in here?

Messerschmidt

Hypnotic

This planes crew found what little
shade they could on a sunny afternoon

I like these classic biplanes

Did I mention that they also
had a Vintage Car Show?

Michael and Jacob checking
out this Corvette

More my style

What a cool gas station truck

Are those wings?

Classic Woody

Hot rod

GORGEOUS!

car getting to turn on all of the
car's flashing lights

Aerobatics display

We were here for an air show after all.

Chrome Shelby Cobra
WOW!

Souvenir Time
Jacob and his brand new Mustang P-51

Red Tail = Tuskegee Airmen

Naval planes, Corsairs I believe

Jacob flying a plane via
a Virtual Reality system

In his hand is the Mustang P51
that I bought for Jacob

Like most ten year olds, he dreamed of flying it as another group of planes made exciting runs in front of the assembled multitudes.

A P-38 on a bombing run . . .

. . . it just missed that Soviet jet!

Just another GREAT day living
in wonderful Camarillo, California!

While we were having our fun . . .

The ELF was playing their 12th of
14 weeks in the 2022 schedule

Only two more weeks left in the regular season after today.

If you recall, The Barcelona Dragons (8-2) defeated the Stuttgart Surge (0-10) yesterday 62-8 thus clinching the Southern Conference title and its accompanying guaranteed playoff spot.

Here are the results of Sunday's games:

No surprise here as the 9-1
Hamburg Sea Devils beat the
6-4 Berlin Thunder whose Wild Card
playoff chances were greatly diminished

The Sea Devils secured the Northern
Conference crown with the win and
are in the playoffs

The 9-1 Vienna Vikings had
the win they need over the
scrappy 1-9 Istanbul Rams to . . .

. . . win the Central Conference Championship
and earn the third guaranteed
bid to the playoffs

The fourth and final playoff spot will go to the team deemed to be the best second place team.

With this win over the 2-8 Cologne
Centurions, the Central Conference's #2 team,
the 7-3 Tirol Raiders have the inside track
on that one Wild Card spot

The Rhein Fire and Frankfurt Galaxy
are now both 6-4, one game behind
the Tirol Raiders for that elusive
Wild Card entry into the playoffs

A nice win for the 4-7 Wroclaw Panthers
against the 3-8 Leipzig Kingsbut, both
of these clubs have been out
of the playoff picture for awhile

All in all, a GREAT weekend!
