More American Football, What Else?

Monday, August 15, 2022

This is going to be a hectic week as the American football season in Ventura County gets underway in full swing!

The 50th Anniversary Reunion of our
1972 Thousand Oaks H.S. Marmonte League
Championship Team will be this Friday

Organizing this event with a lot of much needed help from 1972 teammates Steve Rote and David Palmer has been ongoing work for the past six months for the three of us.

This coming Friday, 25 of these now Senior Citizens from that long ago team plus their family and friends will be at a pre-game social from 3:30 pm until 6:00 pm before heading over to the nearby Thousand Oaks H.S. Lancers Stadium to be introduced as a group just before the Lancers season opening kickoff against a team from Santa Ana, the Segerstrom H.S. Jaguars, at 7:00 pm.

Lots of "war stories" will be shared to be sure. It should be a fun evening for all of us if we can all stay awake until 7:00 pm.

With the Camarillo Stingers having a scrimmage against the Newbury Park Steelers at Newbury Park H.S. on Tuesday, our favorite Pop Warner team had a light workout today in helmets, t-shirts and shorts only.

Next Saturday, the Stingers will be at Royal H.S. in Simi Valley for the Pop Warner seeding Jamboree to see how they compare with other clubs of the same age/weight group.

After evaluating Saturday's performances, the Pop Warner intelligentsia will then announce the 2022 season schedule with an eye on keeping the playing field as level as possible given the perceived strengths and weaknesses of each team.

In other American football news . . .

Our beloved Washington Huskies
are no where to be seen

If, and that's a big IF after last season, the Huskies can beat the Kent State Flashes and the Portland State Vikings in the first two home games of the season, then the game the Week 3 game, also at home, against the 15th ranked Michigan State Spartans could earn the Dawgs some votes if we win.

The PAC-12, bless its heart, has three teams in this Top 25 AP list, the #7 Utah Utes, the #11 Oregon Ducks and the #14 Southern California Trojans.

The ELF's Week 12 games
start on Saturday

The Stuttgart Surge (0-9) at Barcelona Dragons (7-2) game will be aired live this Saturday at 8:45 am Pacific time on DIRECTV's channel 623, the NXT-HD channel.

Tune in if you can, I think you will indeed be entertained!
