We headed to the Oxnard plains for the Junior Varsity rivalry game between the Camarillo H.S. Scorpions (1-0) and the home team Rio Mesa H.S. Spartans (0-1).
#1 Dylan Moore
Camarillo Defensive Back
Our main reason for being at the game was to support our long time friend Debi Murphy's grandson Dylan.
There's Dylan entering the field
Dylan was a Camarillo Captain
Back and forth, rock 'em, sock 'em
football was the order of the day
The Scorpions first drive ended with
a turnover on downs at the 2 yard line

Dylan a bit loose in coverage

A like the young palm trees

Getting low on this tackle attempt
Rio Mesa's first drive ended with
a fumble at the Goal Line
Both team's opening drives were thus long but fruitless.

. . . break up the pass!

vs. a Bunch Trips formation
The whole game was close with TD
punches being traded by both sides
The difference in the game was Rio Mesa's inability to make their PAT attempts. After their first TD the Rio Mesa's weak PAT kick sailed wide right. After their next three TD's, the Spartans went for two but were again unsuccessful.
Camarillo's kicker made all four of his PAT attempts giving the Scorpions a 28-24 lead with about a minute left in the game and Rio Mesa having one last ditch drive to win the game.
On the last play of the game, a Scorpion DB intercepted a Rio Mesa pass and returned it 55 yards for a TD with no time left on the clock. Since the PAT would have no effect on the game with the game over, the referees correctly applied the rule that there would be no PAT attempt after this final score.

Final Score
Camarillo (2-0) 34
Rio Mesa (0-2) 24
We all enjoyed what was a competitive game for all 48 minutes of play.
Update from EuroBall . . .
American Football International's
latest ELF Power Rankings
I have no argument with the top three teams but I found it interesting that the Rhein Fire (6-4) held down the #4 spot that would include the playoff's lone Wild Card berth.
The Tirol Raiders (7-3) have the best record of the four clubs still in the Wild Card hunt. The Frankfurt Galaxy (6-4) and Berlin Thunder (6-4) are the other two squads still vying for the Wild Card.
Not to worry, it will all sort itself out in the next two final regular ELF Season weekends.
