Camarillo Stingers Jamboree Scrimmages

Saturday, August 20, 2022

Today we traveled, bright and early, to Royal H.S. in toasty Simi Valley for the Pop Warner Jamboree scrimmages to determine seeding and placing in the soon to be released game schedule for the 15 Freshmen level teams based on today's results.

The first scrimmage started at 8:00 a.m. on one of Royal's grass fields outside of their stadium against the Newbury Park Steelers.

Each scrimmage would last 40 fun-filled minutes.

Jacob at Free Safety

Seeking the ball carrier

GET THERE!

Getting closer

It's a long way to the ball
from the Free safety position

Keep running . . .

. . . sooner or later . . .

. . . you may . . .

. . . get in on the tackle

Another play, another shot
at a tackle

At 10:00 a.m., the Stingers moved to the Royal Highlanders game field to scrimmage the Simi Valley Bulldog Black team.

Jacob at Free Safety again

Running as usual

There's the ball carrier!

Gather

Track the ball carrier

Wrap up and
KEEP YOUR FEET ALIVE!

Hang on for help to arrive

Here is the same play's video
of Jacob's play from Free safety

Trying to diagnose the next play

Needing to make a play
through the receivers hands

Now Jacob is lined up at
Running Back

Players with a white tape "X" on their helmets weighed in as too heavy to be allowed to carry the football in any way, shape or form at the Freshmen level. If they were to intercept a pass or scoop and run with a fumbled ball, the play would be blown dead at the point of the turnover.

Getting ready to block

Iso Blocker

A bit high but making contact

Now playing Tight End . . .

Sizing up the Defense

Time to block

Blocking

Keep your feet moving

Block to the whistle!

Still working

Still running to make a block

Good position

Staying alive

Working upon the field

Clash of the Titans

Good position Jacob!

Working up to the second level

HIT SOMEBODY!

He'll do

Keep active

Lots of running today

The effort was good which I loved

Peal back block?

The final scrimmage of the day started at 11:00 a.m. and was against the Santa Barbara Saints.

At Free Safety again

Now at Nose Tackle

Keep your pad level lower

In good position to make
a tackle against this Saint

Jacob needs to run
THROUGH contact!

Which Jacob did not do on this play

Which caused him to both miss
the tackle and fall down

Jacob is resilient and continues to show improvement on a daily basis. I am pleased at his effort more than anything else each time I watch him at work. Still, he has to continue to improve his knowledge of the game and his techniques but then what player doesn't.

Love this kid!

On to the world of EuroBall . . .

A full slate of ELF games
again this week

Only one game today in the ELF,
five more on Sunday

The 7-2 Barcelona Dragons seemingly had an easy game against the 0-9 Stuttgart Surge.

If you recall, a few weeks ago the Dragons played another winless team, the Istanbul Rams, and were upset.

Would the Dragons be mentally ready this time?

They were ready indeed!

Barcelona led 35-0 at the end of the First Quarter.

The Dragons came to play.

The win guaranteed that Barcelona will be
one of the four teams in the ELF Playoffs

Only two more regular season games until the start of the playoffs but they are against the Northern Conference leading Hamburg Sea Devils (8-1) and the Central Conference's best club, the Vienna Vikings (8-1).

Southern Conference Champions
8 Wins - 2 Losses

An amazing accomplishment considering the Dragons had a modest 3-7 record in 2021.

Reading Is FUNdamental!

Carlos Ruiz Zafón was an
amazing writer who died in 2020

His books are set in one of our favorite cities in the world, Barcelona, which just adds to the delight of reading his works like this series of intense short stories that he wrote to be specifically published after his death.
