After suffering two close losses by a total of only five points to open the 2025 Camarillo Middle School Flag Football season last week, Jacob and his Las Colinas Mustangs returned to action today.

It must be noted that this is Jacob's third and final year of middle school having played all three years with the Mustangs' Flag Football program.
I love that he has had the same two coaches all three season's who are always positive in their work with the kids on the roster.
They also do a fantastic job game in and game out getting all of their players into all the games.
I highly recommend the Mustangs' Flag Football program to any parent seeking a positive outlet for their children's energy.

The Las Colinas Head Coach had alerted me just before the game's opening Kickoff to watch for a special play that they had installed that would start with Jacob in the backfield.
There he was at Right Halfback . . .
. . . taking a handoff . . .
. . . to start a Sweep play . . .
. . . that turned into a Sweep . . .
. . . Pass . . .
. . . that was caught . . .
. . . and, after avoiding a Tiger defender, . . .
. . . would go ALL THE WAY for a . . .

Goal at the two yard line
All fumbles, whether forced or unforced, in Flag football are ruled dead at the point where the ball first hits the turf.
That close to Jacob's first ever pass becoming a TD. The sports' gods can be so fickle at times.

A solid and much needed win for Las Colinas. They will play again on Wednesday at home at 4:00 p.m. against University Preparation Charter School, a.k.a., the UPCS Dolphins.

American football teams from the Catalonia region of Spain and Italy squared off last Saturday in the city of Granollers located about 20 miles north of Barcelona.
As it turned out, the home field advantage was in full effect for the Catalonian club.

We'll finish this post with a tad of nostalgia . . .

of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
It was taken on Friday, April 18, 1958, when the new Los Angeles Dodgers, recently moved from Brooklyn, hosted the San Francisco Giants, also newly transplanted from New York, in the first ever Major League Baseball game played in Los Angeles.
On that sunny afternoon, a then major league record regular season crowd of 78,672 fans saw the home team win by a tally of 6-5.
Two days later, on Sunday, April 20, 1958, my Grandfather Evaristo took me to this same cavernous venue to watch a day game that still lives in my mind. We sat high up in left-center field seats and enjoyed every minute of the nine inning affair.
My most vivid memory of that long ago day was of Giants' Hall of Fame centerfielder hitting a rocket to the deepest part of the right-center outfield that he tried to stretch a sure triple into an inside the park home run.
I said "tried" because a picture perfect Dodgers' relay nailed Mays at the plate in highly dramatic fashion as the home crowd of 47,234, including my Grandfather and me, erupted at the amazing beauty of the play.
The final score that day was all Giants, 12-2, but as I said, all I remember was that play at the plate that favored the Dodgers.
That game was played a few months over 67 years ago, life moves quickly.
