It was a GREAT day to explore the Parisian art scene!
Crime not Art
At least they left this poor beggar the bike frame.
View of the Seine near our apartment's
Champs de Mars Metro stop
The Orsay Museum
One of Paris' best art museums, but this was not our goal today.
The Orsay Museum's entry gates are guarded by these two fine beasts . . .
. . . a serene Rhino and . . .
. . . a fierce Stallion
There's our goal for the morning,
The Louvre Art Museum
Even the outside is artsy
Brian, Koreen and Laurie
in the Tuileries Garden
The Louvre's famed/despised
glass pyramid
The Arc Triumph du Carrousel
celebrates Napoleons victories
Laurie inside the pyramid
ready to absorb some French culture
"Damn, we have another Faculty Meeting after school today." |
Lucky guy
The origin of the tramp stamp
Exquisite in stone
Laurie really liked this one
Who doesn't love a centaur
The Venus de Milo
People fighting for a good
shot of the Venus de Milo
They were not happy when I took up this position behind the famed statue.
Like I cared.
GREAT hair day!
Even the ceiling's are art forms
in the Louvre which once was
the palace of the French kings
The Nike of Samothrace
St. Francis being lasered
the Stigmata by Jesus Christ
I just liked the colors
St. Peter of Verona is
ALWAYS a crowd pleaser!
Leonardo da Vinci's whimsical
portrait of John the Baptist
This is one of Leonardo's
better known works
The Coronation of Napoleon
Napoleon coronated himself before the Pope, who was sitting behind him, could do it.
Now Napoleon is coronating his bride as Joséphine as France's new Empress.
I enjoy looking at some of the
HUGE canvasses in the Louvre
and then focusing in on some of
the "lesser" participants like this fellow
Exhausted
Eugène Delacroix's famous
"Liberty Leading the People"
Michelangelo's "Rebellious Slave"
Michelangelo's "Dying Slave"
"GET THAT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH NOW!"
The Angel of Death Lovingly
takes another soul
How on Earth did they do this?
Bacchus in a large bowl
Back inside the Louvre's Pyramid
signaled the end of a great excursion
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
In front of a rare Protestant
church in Paris
A random Catholic church
As Notre Dame Cathedral is still closed due to fire damage, we opted to enter this church to see more religious art.
These three wise men were
guarding the entry doors
Weird looking life forms to be sure
"I've got to listen to all of
those prayers again today?
How old are these murals?
Cool building
Where Laurie and I spent an hour
in the afternoon while the FitzGeralds
took the tour of the stained glass widows
in Sainte-Chapelle
St. Michael at work slaying
a devil in the Latin Quarter
Good looking fellow
Koreen took this picture
of us dining at this great Brasserie
Now, in news from the Continent . . .
The European League of Football announced today that they will expand again next season to 18 teams, up from 12 clubs that competed in the 2022 campaign.
There has been a previous commitment to adding four teams next season and today the ELF presented us with two more expansion teams.
Prague now has a team . . .
. . . and so does the City of Lights!
The club in Paris has special
meaning to both Laurie and I
You see, part of the ownership group consists of Jason Johnson and Matt Epperson who were the outstanding QB/WR combo for our first EuroBall team, the 2008 Catania Elephants from Sicily.
Good luck to them in 2023!
Jason was quick to point out to me that since we were already in Paris, we should check out the stadium where the new squad would play their games.
So we did
Stade Jean Bouin can seat about
20,000 rabid fans
Tonight people were just arriving
for a soccer game between Nancy
and Versailles
Shockingly, it ended in a 2-2 tie we found out.
Overall, this looked like an amazing home sight for a team based in one of the world's greatest cities.
The ELF now looks like this for 2023:
Barcelona Dragons (2021)
Berlin Thunder (2021)
Cologne Centurions (2021)
Fehervar Enthroners (2023)
Frankfurt Galaxy (2021)
Hamburg Sea Devils (2021)
Helvetic Guards (2023)
Istanbul Rams (2022)
Leipzig Kings (2021)
Milan Seamen (2023)
Munich Ravens (2023)
Paris Football Team (2023)
Prague Lions (2023)
Rhein Fire (2022)
Stuttgart Surge (2021)
Tirol Raiders (2022)
Vienna Vikings (2022)
Wroclaw Panthers (2021)
Thus, the 2023 ELF will have 18 teams based in these ten countries:
Austria (2)
Czech Republic (1)
France (1)
Germany (8)
Hungary (1)
Italy (1)
Poland (1)
Spain (1)
Switzerland (1)
Turkey (1)
Good luck to Jason and Matt in their new adventure in Paris!
We close with news of another GREAT
day of physical fitness in France
