LA City Ducks at Camarillo Stingers Game and a Wedding

Saturday, September 10, 2022

If it's Saturday, then it just has to be time for a Camarillo Stingers Pop Warner football game!

The LA City Ducks (2-0)
vs.

The Camarillo Stingers (2-0)
at Camarillo H.S.

This promised to be a good, hard fought battle between two of the three remaining undefeated clubs in the GCYFL's Freshman American Division.

The Division's third unblemished squad, the Santa Barbara Saints (2-0), had a bye this weekend.

Here come the Stingers

LET THE GAME BEGIN!

Jacob needs to put a move on
this would be blocker

Gather . . .

. . . size up the situation . . .

. . . and redirect yourself

The Stingers scored early to take a
6-0 advantage leading to this Kickoff

Get to the ball carrier

Rip through the blocker

Keep sprinting to the ball

Almost there

Pursuit is a MUST on Defense

Jacob scraping off of line of scrimmage

Find the ball . . .

. . . and then pursue it again

Jacob's arm raised Nose Tackle stance
used for better get-off he believes

Uh-Oh, it looks like Jacob may get triple
teamed by the Ducks #50, #9 and #44
on this play

If so, the Aaron Donald Effect would be in full swing.

Disengage from those blocks and . . .

. . . PURSUE!

. . . where he drew a double team block

An oddity, as the Ducks Punted

At this level, as punts only go for about ten yards and blocks are a real possibility, most teams just go for it on Fourth Down regardless of the distance needed for a conversion.

Because of these realities, the Stingers have yet to Punt this season and I believe that this was only the second Punt that one of our opponents has tried this season.

The Stingers' first opponent punt two weeks ago by the 805 Warhawks was blocked by Camarillo and turned into a scoop and score for a Stingers' TD.

Tight Ends must be consistent blockers

Blocking in the back is illegal

So is Holding

The Stingers led 6-0 at the intermission and, unfortunately, Laurie and I had to leave the contest to attend the wedding of one of our former Rio Mesa H.S. players, Tanner Wrout.

Our son Michael kept updating us but for the Stingers, it was just not meant to be.

Final Score
LA City Ducks (3-0) 12 - Camarillo Stingers (2-1) 6

Next Saturday, the 2-1 Stingers will try to regroup as they will be on the road playing the 0-2 Fillmore Raiders. Fillmore played the 0-2 Oxnard Knights today but no score of that game has been reported yet.

Also next weekend, the LA City Ducks (3-0) will travel to Dos Pueblos H.S. to take on the Santa Barbara Saints (2-0) who had a bye today.

On to the wedding . . .

and former Rio Mesa staff and their wives

As usually happens when I'm having a great time with friends that I have not seen in a long time, I forgot to take any pictures.

The Washington Huskies (2-0)
beat the Portland State Vikings (0-2) today

Up next for the Huskies is their third consecutive home game against their first formidable opponent of the campaign, the 2-0 Michigan State Spartans.

European League of Football
Semi-Final playoff result today

By beating the Wild Card Tirol Raiders (8-5) today, the #1 seeded Hamburg Sea Devils (12-1) will play in the ELF's Championship Game on September 25th at the stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria.

The Sea Devils Championship Game opponent will be the winner of Sunday's other ELF Semi-Final game between the #3 seeded Barcelona Dragons (8-4) and the home team, #2 seeded Vienna Vikings (10-2).

Finally . . .

Women's American football
counties to expand globally

This game between these two all-star clubs from the USA and Brazil will be played in São Paulo, Brazil. While I am not involved in any capacity, it will still be interesting to follow the two squads next Spring.
