It was a HOT but still BEAUTIFUL day for American football at Camarillo High School's Carl Thompson Field.
What more could you ask for on the second weekend of the 2022 Gold Coast Youth Football League season?
Our GCYFL American Division Freshman game would start at high noon and the heat was a definite factor.
Oxnard Knights (0-1)
at
Camarillo Stingers (1-0)
Our Stingers were warming up
on the Camarillo HS practice field
when I drove up to the stadium
Time to play, the walk into
Carl Thompson Field
Pre-game check of who is on
the Kickoff team
Because of the heat and the Oxnard Knights extremely small roster, the coaches and referees agreed to dispense with kickoffs today for the sake of safety.
Instead, the ball was placed at the offense's own 40 yard line to start each half and after a score.
The Camarillo Stingers
Freshman Cheerleaders
The Knights only had one substitute
Hats off the the courageous Knights who battled hard all game despite their 12 man roster.
Jacob #99 at Tight End on the right
At various times during the game Jacob showed off his versatility by playing Nose Tackle, Outside Linebacker, Free Safety, Tight End and Running Back.
Now Jacob is at Nose Tackle
slanting to his left
Rushing the Oxnard Punter
Those two kids on the left reminded
me that I could really go for a
Dos Equis beer right about now
Good get-off on his way to a block
At the end of the First Quarter, it was Camarillo in front 16-0.
Running around because he can
Shedding a blocker
Eyeballing a defender to block
Getting hectic in the Pit
At the Intermission, the Stingers had a comfortable 22-0 lead.
Getting in on the pile
Another blocking opportunity
from the Tight End position
Lining up at Outside Linebacker
Blitzing off the edge
The end of the Third Quarter saw the blue team extending their advantage to 28-0.
Goodness Gracious!
Old #99 was lined up at Right Halfback!
I think he's getting the ball!
HE IS GETTING THE ROCK!
Now he has to block for the
Left Halfback
Another carry coming to an end
Jacob had two carries for about eight yards total.
That was both fun and a bit nerve wracking to watch.
Blocking again for the LHB's carry
Eyeballing the defender he
needs to kick out
This was Jacob's longest
carry of the day
Time to play some Free Safety
Getting in on a tackle
Patrolling the Deep Third
A good, solid win
Camarillo Stingers (2-0) 28
Oxnard Knights (0-2) 0
As I write this, no other scores from today's other two American Division games have been published on the GCYFL website.
Next weekend the Stingers (2-0) will host the LA City Ducks (1-0) who hosted the 805 Warhawks (0-1) today.
The Knights (0-2) will host the Fillmore Raiders (0-1) on Saturday. The Raiders hosted the Santa Barbara Saints (1-0) today.
Michael, a proud Dad with
a tired son, Jacob
I was pretty darn proud of Jacob's efforts again today.
As it turns out, American football can be a lot of fun if you just go hard at all times.
GREAT JOB JACOB!
