In the other three playoff games on Wednesday, all best of five events, the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 to stay alive, the Brewers still lead this NLDS overall, 2-1.
The Toronto Blue Jays won their ALDS vs. the New York Yankees, 3-1, via today's 5-2 win in the Bronx.
Finally, the other ALDS moves on to the deciding fifth game as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners, 9-3, to even their series at 2-2.

Now this is interesting . . .
A National Dual Meet Rassling Invitational featuring 16 top NCAA Division I teams including 11 of the top 12 finishers from the 2025 NCAA Championships.
It will be a double-elimination tournament featuring "wrestlebacks" giving every team a chance to fight their way back to the podium in the end.
Cool, now what's a "wrestleback" exactly?
This big event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, November 15-16, 2025, at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It can also be seen on ESPNU.
Who's in?
I saw a copy of a 1930 Green Bay Packers game program online Thursday morning with some interesting photos and biographies.
Before we delve into one, let me remind you who Primo Carnera was. He was a HUGE and well known Italian boxer in those days who stood 6'6" and weighed 270 lbs. An up-and-comer in 1930, he would become boxing's World Heavyweight Champion from 1933-1934.
After finishing his boxing career in 1946 with a record 88-14 including 72 wins by knock outs, Carnera turned to the ever colorful world of professional wresting and movie acting, maybe the same thing.
As a wrestler he started his new career with a sparkling 143-1-1 record giving him a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship against Lou Thesz. Thesz won that contest and Carnera would retire from the ring in 1962 but not before the younger version of myself saw him wrestle on KTLA Channel 5 TV with Dick Lane calling all of the action.

I love the allusion to Primo Carnera, spaghetti and Mussolini that was worked into Hubbard's life notes.
Due to his tremendous accomplishments on the gridiron, Hubbard is enshrined in both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame.
Additionally, he also earned a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame for his sterling career as an American League umpire from 1936 to 1951. He continued to work as an Umpire Supervisor until 1969.
I found it odd to see that his pro football career included wearing, in order, jersey numbers 41, 39, 40, 38, 27, 51, 35 and 60.
This was great for any jewelers trying to keep Cal's wife supplied with the traditional jersey number pendent/necklace.
Besides Cal Hubbard, this now 95 year old program included the colorful names of many other Packers including Center "Jug" Earpe, QB Cal Bloodgood, HB Johnny Blood and HB Hurdis McCrary.
The 1930 Green Bay Packers went 10-3-1 on their way to a second consecutive NFL Championship under the direction of Head Coach Curly Lambeau. There were no playoffs in 1930 as the NFL Champion was based on which team had the best winning percentage during the regular season played with decidedly uneven schedules ranging anywhere from a low of nine games, the Minneapolis Red Jackets, to a high of 18 games, the Frankford Yellow Jackets.
The NFL has changed a bit since 1930.

As for Thursday's high school games, we would watch the same two schools battling at each other's home sites.
First it would be a Boys Frosh football game in Simi Valley at 4:00 p.m. and then a Girls Varsity Flag football game in Camarillo at 7:15 p.m.

I was joined by family friend, Debi Murphy, to watch her grandson, Holtz play for the Scorpions.

The Scorpions lost their starting QB for the remainder of the game after suffering a knee injury on their opening drive of the game.

This one game down to the wire
Camarillo's last play of the game came on a Fourth and Goal from the 15 yard line. Their desperation, last ditch pass was caught at the one yard where the Pioneers' DB was able to secure the tackle and drive the Scorpion receiver to the turf out of the End Zone to preserve the Simi Valley win.

It was a highly entertaining game if you were simply a spectator but not so much if you were rooting for the Scorpions today.
After driving back to Camarillo from Simi Valley H.S. and dropping off Debi Murphy at her home, it was almost time for the second half of today's twi-light doubleheader.
I had just enough time to pick up a delicious Cuban sandwich to go at the local Jimmy John's Sandwich Shop and get to Camarillo H.S. for the Girls' Flag football game before the 7:15 pm Kickoff.

With the Scorpions' lofty rankings, I just had to see these young ladies play a game.

When these two clubs met earlier this season at Simi Valley, Camarillo cruised to a 47-0 victory.
On this evening, the Pioneers started off playing much improved football.

The highly skilled Scorpions now looked every bit the dominant, highly ranked team that they were billed to be.
I believed that the Mercy Rule would be in effect to start the Second Half. Whether I was right or not, I took this as my cue to head home for the night.
I found out later, via MaxPreps, the final score of this game.

In case you were wondering, counting the eight games that I coached in Spain at the start of the year plus the seven Gijón Mariners Flag football games that I observed while on the Iberian Peninsula last Winter, added to the now 30 games that I've attended this Fall, I have now been to a total of 45 American games of all types in 2025.
Football Junkie seems to be an appropriate soubriquet.
Back to baseball . . .
The Los Angeles Dodgers played their fourth game of their NLDS with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight with the Dodgers leading the series 2-1.
It took 11 innings but

The Dodgers now await their opponents for the first game of the Best of Seven series on Monday.
They will play the winner of Friday's Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers contest, the fifth and deciding game of the other NLDS skirmish.
