Camarillo Stingers Senior Night and the Saugus Spartans Navy Game

Saturday, October 11, 2025

Tonight was going to be a special night at Camarillo H.S. as the Camarillo Stingers were honoring all of the Eighth Graders in the program playing their last season of Pop Warner football before transitioning to high school next Fall.

The anticipated pomp and circumstance would involve the players and their families on a BEAUTIFUL night for American football.

The 20th season of football for the
Camarillo Cougars/Stingers

Good mottoes

What are they doing down there?

Ah, a balloon arch

Getting it properly in place for the
ceremony at midfield

The festivities may now begin

Jacob and family enjoying
their special moment

On to the game . . .

at Calabasas Rams Black (4-2) - Lost 34-0

Much like last night's Del Sol-Channel Islands game, this one would be a good battle between two evenly matched teams.

Stingers lineman dancing in the
pre-game warmups

It looked like the Stingers were loose.

Captains meeting at midfield

Camarillo started off rushing the
ball with a flourish

A BIG GAIN!

He caught it!

Camarillo Punting with Jacob
Long Snapping . . .

. . . and then hustling down
the field to down it

Airplane Spin and a Body Slam Tackle

DON'T LET HIM TURN THE CORNER!

Good Defensive Get-Off!

A huge Camarillo run setting
up a possible TD

Working it closer to the Goal Line

Catch and Run for a TD!

For the first time all season, the Stingers led in a game 6-0.

The PAT attempt was no good.

Jacob covering the Kickoff

He needs to be upended!

So let it be written, so let it be done

End of the First Quarter
Camarillo - 6
Saugus - 0

Having the lead for once was a GREAT feeling!

Open Deep but the ball went elsewhere

The Pit

FORCE him back inside . . .

. . . NUTS, he got outside

Camarillo throwing . . .

. . . a successful Middle Screen

Jacob checking with the Referee to
be sure that he was properly aligned

The Referee in question was our long time friend and fellow coach at Rio Mesa H.S., John DuBose.

John is one of the really good guys.

The Stingers would score on this drive via a well executed play action pass that completely baffled this photographer.

The PAT attempt was good and Camarillo led, 14-0.

This looks like a well blocked
Spartans play

GET HIM DOWN!

Trouble inside the five yard line . . .

. . . it was caught and then the WR
bulled his way to pay dirt

The Stingers' Defense smothering
the Saugus PAT attempt

The score was now, Camarillo 14 - Saugus 6.

Stingers take to the air again

Catch and RUN!

After turning the ball over on downs,
the Stingers gave up a LONG TD run
just before Halftime

The Saugus PAT pass play was
deftly broken up

A nice Stingers' Kickoff Return with
seconds left in the Second period

Halftime Score
Camarillo - 14
Saugus - 14

Jacob covering another Kickoff

Collision about to happen

A nice catch to move the chains

Another pass . . .

. . . that was tipped . . .

. . . and intercepted

The old and reliably transferable Tipping Drill strikes again!

Solid Solo Tackle

Lots of individual battles along
the Line of Scrimmage

QB PRESSURE!

He could . . .

. . . go all the way . . .

. . . and he did for a Saugus TD, NUTS!

Camarillo stopped the PAT attempt but Saugus led for the first time, 20-14.

Another Kickoff return that placed
the Stingers in good field position

QB scrambling for a First Down

Jump Ball that was well defended

End of the Third Quarter
Saugus - 20
Camarillo - 14

Nice Saugus catch in the open field

A Saugus play action pass to defend

Get that ball in the other arm, PLEASE!

STORMING THE BASTILLE!

A Saugus run that gashed the Stingers . . .

. . . and breaking outside . . .

. . . pursued by Jacob who . . .

. . . forced a fumble but the ball
rolled out of bounds

GREAT effort by Jacob to be sure!

Jacob Pressuring the Passer . . .

. . . and knocking him down legally

Saugus continues running to
their right flank

One-on-One, DE vs. OT

Excellent Spartans Pass Rush . . .

. . . but the pass was complete

One last gasp attempt to score was
complete but it was Fourth Down
and a turnover on downs

The game itself was as highly entertaining and competitive as advertised but the final result was again a disappointment.

Final Score
Saugus (2-5) - 28
Camarillo (0-7) - 14

Time to check in on the rest of today's Gold Coast Youth Football League action in the Senior Black National Conference.

The last two teams in the Senior Black National Conference will somehow be placed in the lower level Senior Black American Conference Playoffs as a consolation prize.

Such is life in youth sports at times.
