Even though Jacob's Pop Warner and Middle School Flag Football seasons both came to a close last weekend, the lure of the sport brought us back out to the fields.
Jacob joined a few of his Camarillo Stingers' teammates on Monday and Tuesday at Camarillo H.S. to watch their Freshmen team practice.
They were both well organized sessions that included extensive drill work and a solid emphasis on the Kicking Game as the Scorpions (7-2) prepared for their final game of the season at home on Thursday against the Dos Pueblos H.S. Chargers (1-3-1).

Team Time in Camarillo
Jacob came away feeling extremely positive about the Camarillo Frosh program and felt comfortable with the coaching staff's approach with the kids.
As you know if you are a follower of this blog, the 2025 high school football season has been dedicated to going to offbeat games that have offered us interesting match-ups for a variety of reasons.
So far this season, I have gone to 23 high school games including 12 Varsity, two JV, five Frosh, two Girls Flag and two Eight-man contests.
Our more exotic choices have been to Friday night Varsity games at:
Los Angeles H.S. Southern California's second oldest H.S.
Roosevelt H.S. One of two school that I wanted to attend as a youth.
San Marino H.S. The other school that I wanted to attend.
Boron H.S. Small town Americana at its finest.
California School for the Deaf-Riverside Athletes overcoming the odds.
Channel Islands H.S. Their game against Del Sol H.S. gave us two teams still playing for pride and for their communities amid long losing streaks.
George Washington Prep H.S. The school that gave me my first teaching opportunity in the Spring of 1970.
This season of high school football exploration led me to buy tickets on-line for a huge game this coming Friday.
The 90th East Los Angeles Classic
Garfield H.S. Bulldogs (6-2)
vs.
Roosevelt H.S. Rough Riders (4-4)

East Los Angeles College
These two schools, Garfield located in East L.A. and Roosevelt representing neighboring Boyle Heights, played the first game against each other in 1925 with the Bulldogs currently leading the series 43-41-5.
The intense rivalry long ago could no longer handle the huge crowds that wanted to see the games each year, so the game was moved the East Los Angeles College's Weingart Stadium that has a much more suitable seating capacity of 22,355. This stadium is packed for any and all Garfield-Roosevelt game.
In recent years the game was played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and even moved to the Rams and Chargers' home field, SoFi Stadium last year.
Another perk this Friday is that it will be an all-afternoon and evening Garfield vs. Roosevelt affair as the Boys J.V.s will start things off at 3:15 p.m., followed by the Girls Flag Football game at 5:45 p.m. before the Boys Varsity main event kicks off at 7:45 p.m.
Rumor has it that this game is Homecoming for both schools Interesting.
It will be the first Garfield-Roosevelt game not only for me but also for Jacob and Michael.

With only a possible Ohio State and Indiana game eliminating one of them in a BIG-10 Conference Championship game and none of the other four remaining undefeated playing each other as they are in four different conferences, we could have as many as five undefeated teams in the College Football Playoffs this year.
Doubtful but possible.

Tuesday night, I joined Michael and Mary for a Girls Flag Football C.I.F.-Southern Section DII Playoff Game.
It was the 53rd American football game that I've attended in calendar year 2025 in first Spain and now in California.
It was a First Round contest in the DII playoffs that included a whopping 32 teams today.

While the season is now over for Tesoro H.S., the Panthers move on to the Second Round of the DII Playoffs on Saturday.
They will travel to Irvine to take the measure of the strong Portola H.S. Bulldogs (24-2) who defeated the Shadow Hills H.S. Knights (23-5) by the slimmest of margins today, 7-6.
