Thurs.-Fri., May 21-22, 2026
After a prolonged, near two year building process, Camarillo's much anticipated House of Bamboo Tiki Bar finally opened a few months ago.
When it did finally open there were stories on-line about two to three hour queues for the curious to get their first taste of Camarillo's new hot spot.
We were joined by Koreen and Brian FitzGerald earlier this month in an attempt to find a table without reservations. We felt good when we saw no line out front but left disappointed when we were told that our earliest shot at a table was in about two hours. We dined somewhere else instead that night.
On Thursday, we all returned, but this time armed with dinner reservations.
I instantly felt like I was in the
South Pacific what with hot lava
ominously dripping from overhead
Disturbing masks taking in
all that we ate and drank
The tropical drinks were
smooth and refreshing
Brian and Koreen found our several
shared appetizer plates delicious
Warrior-like to be sure
Our foursome found that the House of Bamboo offered good grog and fare in a fun atmosphere, we'll be back again for sure.
Of course, this meal whetted my wanderlust . . .
Love Madrid
In our many travels to the Spanish capital we have never visited Sigüenza, Cercedilla or Aranjuez.
How did we miss these three gems?

Then there was this disturbing news from the Civil War reenactment front.
The October 2-4, 2026 Battle of Franklin reenactment, scheduled to be fought in the city of Lebanon, Tennessee, has hit a bump.
As you may recall, Jacob, Michael and I have already purchased round trip plane tickets (LAX to Nashville) and reserved a room for the weekend. It was a sweet set up for us as the battlefield was only a 20 minute drive from the airport. Also, Lebanon H.S. had a home game on Friday night and I would drive 90 minutes south on Saturday to take in a game at the Sewanee-University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. On Sunday, I would attend the boys' entire reenactment activities.
We received word today that one of the land owners in Lebanon whose property was to be used for parking and the troops encampment sites had decided to not allow the reenactment to use his land.
As a result, the the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee reenactment has been moved to the fair city of LaFayette, Georgia just 160 miles south of Lebanon. This change of venue will entail about a 2:30 drive to further complicate things.
As for our Friday adventures that weekend, it is a bit of a plus as we can now easily visit both the Stones River National Battlefield in Tennesse and the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park that straddles the Georgia-Tennessee border.

On Friday night, perhaps a
LaFayette HS Ramblers at
Ringgold HS Tigers game
On Saturday, it will still be a Sewanee Tigers' game against the visiting Southwestern University Pirates.
As Sewanee is 21 miles closer to LaFayette, Georgia than it is to Lebanon, Tennessee, it's a plus on Saturday.
All Civil War battle plans are inherently fluid as it turns out.
Stay tuned for more updates . . .
