Chili John's in Burbank and Other Delights

Mon. & Tues., May 18-19, 2026
The highlight of these two days was a trip to BEAUTIFUL downtown Burbank for lunch with an old friend.

But first, as the grandkids went to Disneyland on Monday and we therefore did not see them . . .

This was our first up close look
at Jacob's latest piece of hardware

NICE!

At a random park in Burbank

I was early and had time to kill.

Burbank's Lockheed Aerospace and Defense plant has been the long time economic engine for this community.

Of course the park had a
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter on display

This museum was next to the park . . .

. . . but it is only open on the weekends

My next stop was an interesting one.

Burbank Military Books

I was searching for more of the missing Time-Life Civil War books that Michael and Jacob are collecting.

Eclectic cluster in the book store

The colorful curmudgeon of an owner had 23 of the 28 books in the series including six that Michael and Jacob are missing.

He would not sell the books individually as he intimated that he was waiting for someone looking to buy the entire series at once, even though he did not possess an entire series.

I tried to point this out to him but to no avail.

No sales today.

On the way back to the Blueberry II, I got a message from Lyon, France.

Julien Urgenti and
Ismael "El Catalan" Sánchez

Their daughters were hard at work at their soccer team's tryouts today. They both made the team by the way.

Two of the best people I've met in all my EuroBall years.

Time for the meeting at a new spot for me but definitely not a new spot in Burbank.

Chili John's was established in 1900

It has been at this spot
in Burbank since 1946

I was meeting Mark Johnson just before his flight back to Seattle. Chili John's is located only about a nine minute drive from the Burbank Airport.

We were joined by Mark's friend Dave Howard.

Truly a spot for Guy Fieri's
"Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives"

Fabulous Decor

I ordered the small bowl of their famed hot chili on a bed of spaghetti with cheese, onions and sour cream.

DELICIOUS!

By the doorway of Chili John's

It served as a gentle reminder that I would be feeling the aftereffects of this hardy meals hours later.

Italian DII Standings

This coming weekend is the last one of the DII regular season.

The DII playoffs should be highly competitive this year.

The Varese Gorillas and the
Bari Navy Seals are playoff bound

The Cagliari Crusaders and the
Formigine Honey Badgers are
post season bound as well

The Trieste Muli and the
Ravenna Chiefs are also in
the playoffs

This is also the final weekend of the regular season in DIII.

As Laurie watches every Dodger

this was an appropriate post
