Home Again After a GREAT Week in the State of Washington

Wednesday, July 13, 2021
All good things must come to an end and today was that day for our grand trip to the Pacific Northwest.

As usual, our day with our hosts, Mark and Susie Johnson, started with a meal.

A lunch at this delightful spot in
Seattle's funky Fremont District

At Local Tide we ate like royalty

Again.

Fremont's famed statue of
Vladimir Il'ich Lenin

This 16 foot tall, bronze statue of the Russian Communist revolutionary arrived in the Fremont District in 1995. It was previously on display in the Czech Republic before the dissolution of the USSR.

This controversial statue found a perfect home in the quirky Fremont District to be sure.

Fittingly Lenin now permanently

Red Star Pub

The equally famed Troll under
the Fremont Bridge

The Fremont Arts Council launched an art competition in 1990 to rehabilitate this area under the Fremont Bridge which was becoming a dumping ground and haven for drug dealers.

The Troll was the winning concept. That is a real VW bug clutched in the Troll's long, boney left hand.

I don't know who the kids are but we were in a hurry and couldn't wait for them to move on.

The diet must really start in earnest on Thursday!

The question is, "Which Thursday?"

The Four Amigos will
reunite again soon I'm sure

Laurie and I can not thank them enough for their generosity and hospitality this past week.

As usual, Mt. Rainier
dominated the scenery

A big THANK YOU to son Michael and granddaughter Mary for picking us up at the Santa Barbara Airport and bringing us home to Camarillo's Casa Contreras.

No arguments from me on this one.

Time for Wednesday's updates
of the Italian Flag Football squads
efforts in Birmingham

The Italian Women's team played their final tournament game against Team Japan in the 5th-6th place contest.

Today, Japan (4-2) defeated Italy (2-4) for the second time this week by a final score of 19-0.

As for the juggernaut that is the Italian Men's squad, they won today's Semi-Final Championship bracket game, 41-29 over Team Mexico (2-3) in another rematch from earlier in the tournament.

On Thursday, Team Italy (5-0) will play their USA (4-0) counterparts for the 2022 World Games Flag Football Championship.

Who to root for . . .

WHAT A LIFE
WE'RE ENJOYING!
