Kristianstad Game

Kristianstad C4 Lions (4-0)
Hässleholm Hurricanes (2-3)

The C4 Lions have been ranked #1 or #2 each week in the SAFF National Rankings of the 24 Division I clubs. This week they dropped from #1 to #2 after poor practices during their BYE week.

I have seen them play three times this season and they were impressive each outing and, in my opinion, very deserving of their ranking. Besides a great tradition and being well coached, they have some terrific players with tons of experience.

Probably waving to Laurie before the game

Or maybe I've watched too much History Channel.

Trying to explain Linear Physics to the Refs

We didn't agree on this issue either.

Kristianstad methodically drives the ball down the field and scores on a 27 yard TD pass, the PAT is good, C4 Lions lead 7-0.

The Hurricanes move the ball but have to punt.

The C4 Lions score on another TD pass from 6 yards out, the PAT is good. C4 Lions up 14-0.

Kristianstad intercepts a Hurricane pass off of a ricochet and I get a 15 yard penalty for yelling at a ref. We both had it coming.

The C4 Lions are driving as the quarter ends leading 14-0.

The C4 Lions continue their drive helped by two late hit penalties on the Canes that gave Kristianstad 7 plays inside of our 10 yard line. A three yard TD run plus another PAT makes it C4 Lions 21 - Canes 0.

The Canes are forced to punt.

The C4 Lions score again on a 21 yard run and add the PAT. Kristianstad cruising with a 28-0 advantage.

The Canes offense shows a spark of life and ends the drive with a 15 yard TD pass from Kalle Nordström to TE Hampus Lilja. the PAT is blocked. C4 Lions 28 - Canes 6

Kristianstad's drive is stopped by the halftime break. The C4 Lions lead 28-6 at the half.

Kristianstad recovers their onside kickoff to start the third period.

The C4 Lions score again on a 21 yard TD run, add another PAT and now lead 35-6.

The C4 Lions recover another onside kickoff.

Kristianstad scores from 8 yards out on a run, another perfect PAT kick ups their lead to 42-6.

On our only possession of the quarter, we are forced to punt.

The C4 Lions are driving again as the quarter comes to a close. Kristianstad 42 - Hässleholm 6

The Kristianstad drive ends when Filip Sundgren recovers a 4th down C4 Lions fumble.

We put together a nice drive thanks to the running of Pär Danielsson and Pär Jönsson but as has been the case so many times this season, turn the ball over on downs on 4th and Goal from the 8 yard line.

The defense plays great and forces Kristianstad into a rare punt.

The C4 Lions punt inadvertently hits one of our players and Kristianstad recovers the ball.

Kristianstad scores again, this time from 10 yards out when their running back is going down for about a 5 yard loss and, as he is going down, laterals it to his QB who runs it in for the TD. The PAT is perfect again and it is now Kristianstad ahead 49-6.

The Canes run a few plays as the gun sounds to end a long afternoon.

Kristianstad 49 - Hässleholm 6

In a nutshell, Kristianstad was simply better than us today. Their tailback, #3 above, is Alexis Koyfis who is easily the most talented non-American running back I have seen in my three years of coaching in Europe.

We now enter the SAFF Summer Break period. We are not scheduled to play a game again until we face Carlshamn at home on August 14.

That is EIGHT weeks between games! We should have had a game on August 8th with Oskarshamn but, as you may recall, their season was halted by the league after they forfeited their game to us two weeks ago.

We will finish our 8 game season on August 21st at Kristianstad.

I'll correct it.

I just wrote #3's name as it appears on the C4 Lions webpage roster.
