Movie Monday

Monday, March 30, 2026

I made the brilliant decision to take my young bride to a movie matinee today.

It was a good move on my part if I do say so myself.

We both loved this well crafted film

Ryan Gosling was excellent as the movies bashful but highly intelligent hero.

Laurie and I highly recommend Project Hail Mary for your viewing pleasure.

We finish with EuroBall news . . .

Yesterday, I posted this poster about the
Italian 7-Man Football Championship

The Valtellina Vikings swamped
the Salento Spiders for the crown

In the third Place Game, the San Giorgio Jonico Vespe held off the Brianza Commandos, 28-20.

All four of these teams played two games in two days, Semifinals on Saturday plus Sunday's finals.

Passion.

Spanish DI Standings

In the Western Conference, the Las Rozas Black Demons (6-1) and the Osos Rivas (5-2-1) have secured the conference's two playoff slots.

The Eastern Conference's two playoff spots are probably going to the Terrassa Reds (5-1) and the Badalona Dracs (5-1-1).

There is only one game left in the Spanish DI regular season save for Terrassa Reds and Valencia Firebats (3-3) who still have to make up a weather postponed game from earlier this season on April 19th.

With Easter Sunday next weekend, there will be no games played in Spain.

On Saturday, April 11th, our Gijón Mariners (1-5-1) will host the Coslada Camioneros (1-5-1) in the last game of the 2026 season for both teams. Earlier this year, in Madrid, Coslada took the measure of the Mariners, 21-14.

Spanish DII Standings

The Alicante Sharks and Valladolid Penguins both fell from the ranks of the undefeated this past weekend.

Another Good Day in California!

A Lounging About Sunday at Home

Sunday, March 29, 2026

After a busy week, we decided for a much needed quiet day at home today.

Still, we do have to report on a drastic, potentially shameful change in our family's dynamics.

During this weekend's Civil War Reenactment at Riley's Farm in Oak Glen, CA, our two favorite Union soldiers . . .

. . . fought for the Rebels!

If captured, they will be shot as traitors to be sure unless they could prove to have placed themselves even deeper in harm's way by serving as spies for General Grant.

Our family hopes that working under cover for the Union is the true nature of this otherwise despicable defection.

Reviewing the day's results from the EuroBall arena took my mind off of this worrisome problem.

Let's start in Spain . . .

Then there was this posted on Facebook about some Italian teams meeting today that I had never heard of before.

A Championship Game
Valtellina Vikings vs. Salento Spiders
to be played in Florence

With a Third Place Game too,
San Giorgio Jonico Vespe vs.
Brianza Commandos

Upon further research, I found them to be playing in yet another level of Italian American football that engages teams in the 7-man version of the game.

Just a few days ago we sent a box of pants and game socks to the San Giorgio Jonico Vespe which also plays at this level.

If I understand it correctly, the tournament in Florence this weekend the Championship of Italy's 7-Man League.

Saturday's Tournament Semi-Final
scores on the left

Salento Spiders 42
San Giorgio Jonico Vespe 41

Valtellina Vikings - 27
Brianza Commandos - 19

Today's Tournament Games
in Florence

Hopefully, we'll have the results of these two games up tomorrow.

Jacob's looming first high school
season is beckoning

It brought back memories of our
wonderful Delaware Wing-T days
at Westlake H.S. from 1978-1988

Does American football ever stop in this household?

Probably not.

A Day in Ventura for the Exercising of My Right of Assembly and a Wine Walk

Saturday, March 28, 2026

We did not have a Camarillo Cosmos track meet today as Jacob and Michael were involved in a huge, three day Civil War reenactment somewhere in the Inland Empire about 150 miles away. Without her brother in attendance, Mary also took a day off from track today thus freeing Laurie and I up do do other things on this fine Spring day.

I opted to exercise my First Amendment
Constitutional Right of Assembly

By days end, I became well aware that this action, shall we say, disturbed at least three of my former high school athletes who are in support of our President's regime.

One even went so far as to share with me, "You're missing out on the best President in our lifetime."

Let's just agree to disagree on this subject.

This pretty much sums up how I
felt about today's demonstration

Interesting tree that greeted us at the
Ventura County Government Center

So along with a dear friend
we entered the site of today's protest

We saw several friends and neighbors at the rally whose names and photos I am purposely not posting for privacy reasons.

Lots of people were at the site

There were lots of clever handmade signs at the protest.

Simple but accurate

A bit off color

Nice play on words

Watch out for . . .

. . . unruly women on a mission!

American Dental Association approved

Good point

Not handmade but still effective

Linking him to the . . .

. . . 20th Centuries biggest villains

Boldly protesting in Spanish

Pleading with Nature

A great turnout INDEED!

We returned home for a few hours and then Laurie and I joined Koreen and Brian FitzGerald for the drive back to Ventura yet again.

This time for this beach city's fun
Spring Wine Walk

We were greeted by great music
and by, what else, good wines

Lots of revelers parading around
pedestrian only Main Street

Yes, there was dancing in the streets!

A typical FitzGerald-Contreras scene,
watching the ladies shopping for jewelry

I couple of stops for adult beverages and then dinner at a new spot for us, the Yard Bar & Grill, plus all of the arts and crafts displays along the street made for a good end to a long but productive day.

On to the daily EuroBall report . . .

The Austrian DI season began today

Fehérvár Enthroners vs. Salzburg Ducks

Our coaching friend and EuroBall lifer, Michael Wood, is the Enthroners' Head Coach this season.

His club, formerly a member of the European League of Football, is located in a suburb of Budapest, Hungary but this year plays in the Austrian League for a more competitive situation than they would find in their own country.

The Czech Republic's Prague Black Panthers also are part of the Austrian DI League for the same improved competition issues.

A competitive loss for the
Enthroners today

Up next, the Italian results . . .

Only one Italian DI game on
the slate this weekend

The Torino Giaguari (3-1) with a key
win over the Ferrara Aquile (2-1)

On to the only Italian DII

Today's Spanish DII Results

Norte Conference Game
The Villamayor Mercenarios (2-4) with a
victory over the Guadalajara Stings (0-5-1)

A Result from Mexico today

I just like the sharp looking University of Nuevo Leon Auténticos Tigres uniforms.

Now for our latest report from Nostradamus . . .

The 2044 season of Huskies
football will be memorable!

The Huskies have done a great job signing the top athletes from the nursery schools all over the country.

I'll be 97 years old in 2044 but, apparently it will be worth the wait.

If you believe in these sort of things.

OUCH!

It truly would be the right thing

Thought provoking

Some days are more interesting than others, today was one of them.
