A Camarillo Cosmos Track Meet, a CYBA End of the Season Gathering and Some BIG Upsets in Spain

We had a long and busy agenda before us today.

First up, meeting the usual suspects at 8:00 a.m. at Camarillo H.S. for the grandkids' third track meet of the season.

Ventura County's governing body

for youth track's 11 clubs

Today's meet featured two of Ventura County's largest contingents with the cap maximum of 300 athletes on each squad.

Mary was still entered in three events,

but switched from the 200 to the

4 x 100 Meter Relay

It was a BEAUTIFUL day for

an American Track & Field Meet

Both of the grandkids started their day running the Second Leg of their respective 4 x 100 Meter Relay teams.

Liking her colorful bow and streamers

With lots of ground to make up,

Mary ran a solid leg

Her team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:12.46.

For some reason, Jacob was placed

on the Cosmos 4 x 100 Meter Relay

"B" team today

He received the baton in last place.

Turning on the jets

He made up a lot of ground

handing the baton off in second place

His team placed fourth in their age group running a pedestrian 1:01.37.

Mary's approach in the Long Jump

Big take-off . . .

. . . led to a hair flying landing

Mary finished 10th in her age group but had a Personal Record (PR) jump today of 7 feet - 7.25 inches.

She surpassed her previous best by 3.75 inches.

A really good race in the 400 Meters

Jacob was slightly behind as

they entered the home stretch

Could he catch him in the

last 100 Meters?

Yes he could!

First place and a PR to boot with a time of 58.11.

He improved his PR by 0.80.

On an interesting side note, Jacob's 400 Meter time was 3.26 seconds faster than his B team's 4 x 100 Meter Relay time today.

Mary was off to a good start

in her 100 Meter Dash

Her running form is improving

in her last event of the day

Mary took third in her heat with a blistering time of 17.85.

It was now Jacob's turn in

the Long Jump pit

EXCELLENT take-off!

He stuck the landing

Jacob was extremely happy with his final jump that was measured at 16 feet - 3 inches, good for First Place.

I don't believe that this was a PR for him but it was a seasonal best.

The last event of the long day,

the 4 x 400 Meter Relay

In an effort to shorten the meet, this race combined both males and females of different ages.

Jacob was running the Anchor Leg

Once again, Jacob exploded down the

home stretch to bring home the win

The team's winning time was a solid 4:13.63.

It was a GREAT day at the track!

In the early evening, we reconvened at Toppers Pizza in Camarillo for one casual, last minute gathering of this year's 8th Grade CYBA Bulls team.

Only five of the seven Bulls

players were in attendance

That included Jacob who was blocked off at the end of the table in this photo.

While all of this was going on, EuroBall was still extremely active . . .

A Western Conference Shocker

Osos Rivas (4-2-1) - 14

Las Rozas Black Demons (5-1) - 12

A HUGE win for one of our former clubs!

The Osos stunned the Spanish American football scene by halting the three time defending DI Champions not only their first loss of the season but also breaking the Black Demons 18 game winning streak.

For Las Rozas, it was only their second loss in the last four seasons. Their record since 2024 now standing at 34-2.

For the Black Demons, their only other loss in the past three plus seasons was also a regular season loss back in 2024 to these same Osos Rivas, 28-21.
