It was a cold, windy day in Oxnard, California, perfect for a late afternoon youth track meet.
Tonight's meet was the last on the regular season schedule for youth track in Ventura County.
The Ventura County J.V. Finals are next Saturday, May 2nd, at Thousand Oaks H.S. Mary will compete in this meet.
The Ventura County Varsity Finals will be held at Buena H.S. in Ventura on Saturday, May 9th. Jacob has carved out Varsity Qualifying marks in the Long Jump, 400 Meter Dash, 800 Meter Run, 4 x 100 Meters Relay and 4 x 400 Meter Relays.
These Camarillo Cosmos meets normally start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays. Today's event was scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. and would not end until 9:00 p.m. for those of us with an athlete in the final running event of the day, the 4 x 400 Meters Relay.
The howling wind at times made for some raw Spring weather to be sure.
We all persevered.
Somehow.
The Camarillo Cosmos
vs.
The Oxnard Stars
at Oxnard H.S.
I ran into to former Rio Mesa H.S.
star athletes, James Turner and
Darian Zimmerman
James' son and Darian's nephews were running today.
It was fun to catch up with these two former players and to see the fine men that they have become.
Mary running the Opening Leg
of her 4 x 100 Meters Relay
Vanessa, in orange, video taping her daughter burning up the track.
Almost to the first handoff zone
The girls ran a time of 1:09.50, their fastest of the season.
Jacob ran the Third Leg of his
4 x 100 Relay
He ran a solid leg on the curve
Jacob took the baton in Fourth Place and was able to make up enough ground to hand it off in Second Place.
His team finished in Third Place with a good time of 50.91.
Mary taking off in the Long Jump
What goes up, MUST come down
Mary's best jump today was 8'-2 1/2".
That same rule applies . . .
. . . to Jacob in the Long Jump
Jacob took Third Place in his division today with a leap of 15'-5 1/2".
100 Meters Dash
Set . . .
. . . GO!
Mary's time today was 18.18.
The coaches decided that Jacob needed to vastly improve his 800 Meters Run performance today, so they held him out of the 400 Meters Dash to save some energy.
Here come the pack down the
backstretch the first time
Jacob was in good position on
this First Lap of two
Still in great shape coming home
on the final lap
Jacob finished in Third Place with a time of 2:16.55, a new PR by 7.49 seconds.
Mission Accomplished, his time did indeed vastly improve!
Jacob on the Third Leg of the night's
final event, the 4 x 400 Meters Relay
This was another splendid race
coming down the homestretch
The Cosmos came in Second Place in this one but ran a season best 4:00.10.
After 9:00 p.m. as we left the stadium with but a few cars left in the Oxnard H.S. student parking lot when Mary discovered that some Seniors are allowed to decorate their assigned parking spots.
Mary loves the character Mabel
from the show Gravity Falls!
All-in-all, it was another good day of youth sports.
Meanwhile, there was EuroBall action today . . .
We'll start in Spain with the
DI National Championship
Semifinal games
The Western Conference's #1 Seeded

The model of both efficiency and power, the Black Demons will be playing in their SEVENTH straight Spanish Bowl, having won the last three.
The Eastern Conference's #1 Seeded
Badalona Dracs (8-1) edged the
Western Conference's #2 Seeded
Osos Rivas (5-3-1)
This will be the fourth time in the last seven Spanish Bowls that the Black Demons and Dracs have met for the Spanish DI crown.

I just liked this Spanish poster announcing
an upcoming Flag Football encounter
between the Mallorca Voltors and the
Vilafranca Red Devils
The NFL's 2026 Draft held Rounds Four-Seven today.
Let's see what the Rams'
direction today with their picks
After taking a QB, TE and DL in the first Three Rounds the last two days, the Rams had no picks today in Round Four 0r Five.
Today they did have one selection in Round Six (#207) and three more in Round Seven (#232, #251 and #252).
Check that, the Rams and
Eagles made a three for one swap
The Rams took C.J. Daniels, a
Miami WR, as a result of the trade
In Round Seven, the Rams selected
Alabama DL Tim Keenan III
Thus, the 2026 Los Angeles Rams'
Draft Class has but five players
So, how did they do with their somewhat puzzling picks?
Only time will tell but at least one "Draft Expert" was skeptical of the Rams' picks.
The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer
gave the Rams his only D grade
Iyer gave the 32 NFL teams 16 As, 11 Bs, four Cs and that lone D grade for their Draft Picks acumen.
Again, only time will tell.
