World Cup Politics Ruled This Day

Not surprisingly, the day was yet another day of political chaos surrounding Our Glorious Leader (OGL) and, this time . . .

. . . the World Cup

As we mentioned in yesterday's

post, OGL pressured the FIFA President

to rescind the disqualifying Red Card

given to Team USA's top scorer and

birthright citizenship Striker

It was not the first time that the

FIFA President came up with a

questionable and profitable decision

His decision to add three minute hydration breaks in the middle of each half of each game allowed TV to add millions of dollars of new uninterrupted advertising to FIFA's coffers.

Don't get me started on FIFA's decision to sell World Cup tickets on the usually secondary first thus driving ticket prices to soar through the proverbial roof.

On to today's World Cup game results . . .

Spain advances to the Quarterfinals

Spain (4-0-1) beat Portugal (2-1-2), 1-0

As for the controversial second game of the day . . .

USA Striker Folarin Balogun did

play but he did not score

Belgium was clearly the better squad. I think that all the brouhaha made them hyper-focused on the task at hand.

Personally, I would have loved a "Ted Lasso Moment" had the USA Head Coach held Balogun out of the game despite OGL's efforts.

Belgium (3-0-2) beat the USA (3-1-1), 4-1

On Friday, July 10th, Spain (4-0-1) and Belgium (3-0-2) will meet in a Quarterfinal contest to be played in Los Angeles.

Well, yes, this would be a

logical ending to another day

of OGL bashing on many levels

I posted this meme over the weekend

I found it interesting that the team listed on the right has won all six games of the Round of 16 contests played so far.

If Colombia and Egypt win tomorrow, then this trend would be a truly eerie meme.

The first book to be read by my

new Book Club was a good one!

While it center's around the 1952 and 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers' seasons that the author covered as a newsman for the New York Herald Tribune, it is also an interesting look into what went on in the 1950's newspaper business.

Throw in the story of the author's family and his passion for the Dodgers growing up in Brooklyn in the 1930s and 1940s, and you have yourself quite an interesting Summer yarn to peruse.

Reading about the Dodgers of my youth before many of them moved to Los Angeles in 1958 as grizzled veterans was a treat for me to be sure!

The six of these Boys of Summer who I did see play for the Dodgers in Los Angeles were Clem Labine, Carl Erskine, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Carl Furillo and Gil Hodges.
