The Journey Home From La Quinta Via Tio's Tacos in Riverside

Thursday, July 2, 2026
All good things must come to an end, so we left our desert paradise this morning after a brilliant time with good friends.

From our French Connection,
Julien Urgenti, after France's
3-0 win over Sweden on Wednesday

One last look at our La Quinta
abode the past few days

It was absolutely perfect for a desert vacation.

According to our Waze app, the drive home to Camarillo would take approximately 3:30.

We were going home with Koreen and Brian FitzGerald and agreed to break up the journey with a nutrition break, but where?

The Inland Empire city of Riverside was about the halfway point of our trek and Laurie and I knew of a rather eclectic spot for good Mexican food in a decidedly eclectic ambience.

Tio's Tacos
3948 Mission Inn Boulevard
Riverside, California

Laurie and I discovered this spot when we spent a night in Riverside last Fall after watching 8-man powerhouse California School for The Deaf, Riverside, dispatch of Rancho Cucamonga's United Christian Academy, 62-20.

Did I mention Tio's penchant
for quirky decor?

One hombre's quirky is
another hombre's art

It's up to you to decide.

Come for the food,
stay for the art I say

This monarch butterfly archway
greets you as you enter the courtyard

Who are those two babes
in the mirror?

One of many pieces of art
made from tin cans

"HOLA, follow me to order
your meals."

Tio's courtyard is loaded
with all sorts of interesting
objet d'art

One of Tio's many colorful
outdoor dining areas

Laurie holding down the fort
while Brian and Koreen explored
Tio's Taco's grounds

Brian captured these chairs knowing
full well that Sun images are a favorite
decorating theme for Koreen

Brian's photo of the once believed
to be extinct Fanta Tin fish was
SPECTACULAR!

The National Geographic Society has offered Brian a handsome sum for its use in a future article.

El Chavo was a long-running comedy
show on Mexican TV

Careful with the sharp edges

Toucan Sam?

El Tecolote

Lions . . .

. . . and Tigers

Yes, they did have an unphotographed bear as well.

Of course Moses dropped in
for a couple of street tacos

Tio's Tacos even has a chapel

A statue of the BVM is a MUST!

Mariachi music is
always appreciated . . .

. . . as is a good performance of
Ballet Folklorico

Tio's Tacos won my
heart again today

Farewell until next time

The ride from Tio's Tacos to Camarillo was a smooth one and we arrived home at about 3:15 p.m. in good stead.

Again, we had a great vacation in the heart of the Coachella Valley.

News from the net . . .

Anyone want to fly down to
Santa Tecla, El Salvador for this
game next week?
