Football Season 2025 Almost Upon Us

Tues.-Thurs., August 12-14, 2025

Things on the local football scene are starting to heat up as the first high school football game between the visiting Spanish Springs Cougars from Sparks, Nevada and the Simi Valley Pioneers is set for Friday night.

Laurie and I will be joining Joanne and Paul Sabolić at the game to root the Pioneers and the Sabolić's son, Jason, the Simi Valley Wide Receiver Coach, on to victory.

On Thursday night, there was supposed to be a Blue-Gray scrimmage between the two Camarillo Stingers Pop Warner Senior team squads. Thus, I brought my camera out to practice only to find out that there would be no scrimmage, just a routine practice.

Still, I could use some practice taking football photos again so here are some of my better efforts tonight.

There was a heavy emphasis on the Kicking Game this evening.

Once again this season, Jacob will be
long snapping on punts for the Blue squad

A few check hikes to warm up

"FIRE ONE!"

Waiting for that Stinger to clear

"FIRE TWO!"

News from the net . . .

This reminded me of the fun, hour
long WhatsApp video call I had this
week with Julien Urgenti

We discussed a lot of Offensive football theory as Julien prepares for the 2025-26 season as the Offensive Coordinator of the Bron Falcons based in a suburb of Lyon, France.

Always a pleasure talking to Julien about just any topic.

This randomly popped up on
a Facebook post about the
Greatest Mexican Bullfighters of All-Time

In 1958, my Father, Jorge, somehow became a friend of this renowned matador and eventually took me to a classic bullfight in Tijuana, Mexico's old downtown bullring to first meet him in his hotel room while he got into his Suit of Lights and then watch him defy Death in the Afternoon one more time later that day.

Being a kid in our home had its interesting moments to be sure.

Happiness in New Orleans starts HERE!

Surprised to see our beloved
Washington Huskies listed

Having five universities (California, Southern California, Stanford, Oregon and Washington) from the old Pacific Coast, PAC-8, PAC-10 and PAC-12 Conferences on this Top Ten list was of interest.

The last Regular Season weekend
of ELF play has these playoff
scenarios still in play

Some sad news for the constantly death knelling ELF, the Cologne Centurions (0-11) have had to forfeit their final game of the season to the Tirol Raiders (5-6) due to a lack of players able to suit out. The Centurions reported less than 30 players physically able to play while ELF rules state that a team must have a minimum of 35 able bodied players in uniform at the start of a contest.

NOT GOOD!

The 2026 EFA picked up two
more clubs from the soon to be
defunct ELF this week

The Stuttgart Surge's (9-2) and the Berlin Thunder's (3-8) additions will now make the new EFA an 11 team circuit.

So true, so INCREDIBLY true!
