Summer came to its unofficial close today as the last of our grandchildren attended their first day of school.
While our four grandchildren in Las Vegas started school last week, our two grandkids in Camarillo began today.
Of course, this meant the taking of the obligatory and beloved First Day of the School Year Photo.
2025 will be a Grand Year!
Jacob is now in the 8th Grade, his last year of middle school.
Mary is in the 5th Grade this year, her final year of elementary school.

In the evening we joined friends
at Ric's Restaurant
We joined fellow retired Rio Mesa H.S. teacher friends, Sharon and Richard Bellman and the FitzGeralds, Koreen and Brian, for dinner and adult beverages at Ric's, a fun Camarillo watering hole.
Our main reason for going out together tonight was to support yet another retired Spartan teacher, Karen Pecht, who was singing and playing her guitar in front of a packed house to great acclaim.
Karen performs as Karyn 805 and donates 100% of her tips to a Breast Cancer research group.

I had mentioned before that this "contest" last weekend almost did not happen due to the hapless Centurions having less than 30 players available to play when ELF rules demand a minimum of 35 able bodied players suited out at game time.
So how were they able to play the game?
Easy, several of the Raiders simply donned Centurions uniforms while still wearing their Tirol helmets to fill out the Cologne roster and actually play for the German squad.
Actually, this horrendous final score was the norm for the 0-12 Centurions. During the 2025 season, Cologne was outscored 739-69.
Looking at it another way, the Centurions average game saw them losing 61.5 to 5.8.

While the Madrid Bravos (8-4) and Stuttgart Surge (10-2) get ready for Saturday's game in Germany and the Rhein Fire (8-4) and Nordic Storm (10-2) do likewise for their Sunday brawl in Copenhagen, there is yet another monkey wrench in play.
It was announced today that the referees are planning to boycott any and all of the playoff games until their back pay issues are resolved.
No officials have been paid by the ELF for their work in any of the 16 games played over the last two weekends of the regular season.
Failure to pay players, coaches and stadiums their contractual obligations has been a common refrain on ELF related websites over the years.
