Another visit to the Port Hueneme U.S. Navy Seabee Museum

Monday, August 18, 2025
With school starting on Wednesday, we took advantage of getting to spend a day with Jacob today.

After a morning spent just hanging out at home followed by a sumptuous breakfast feast at Marie Callender's Restaurant & Bakery, we headed over to the Port Hueneme U.S. Navy Base to explore their Seabee Museum.

The Seabees are the Navy's Construction Battalion (C.B., get it?) that is critical to the success of any prolonged Naval Operation during wartime.

When Jacob was younger, he loved visiting this small but memorabilia packed museum that offers free entry.

Having six arms and wings are
huge advantages for any Seabee
working in battle conditions

I just love this Seabee

I guess that the Seabees also get
to demolish things when needed

"I Fear Death for Us"

It was a good afternoon to the Seabee Museum after at least three years since our last visit.

On the drive home we finally got word about Jacob's Pop Warner schedule for 2025.

Gold Coast Youth Football League

The GCYFL is the governing body for Jacob's Camarillo Stingers Blue Pop Warner club. After the results the three scrimmages of every Senior Division team two Saturdays ago, the GCYFL then had to seed and divide them into conferences.

This is not an easy task and involves lots of work that can become an emotional issue for many coaches, parents and players.

The GCYFL is comprised of 22 chapters stretching from Santa Barbara in north to the Santa Clarita Valley to the east of us. Chapters field teams in six different age groupings, from youngest to oldest, Mighty Mites, Bantams, Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.

As an example of the magnitude of the GCYFL, on Saturday, August 30th, the six levels will play a total of 59 games!

This will be Jacob's Senior season, his final year of playing Pop Warner football after starting his career with the Freshmen.

Jacob's Senior Blue squad
has a tentative schedule

There were over 20 teams scheduled to compete at the Senior level including two teams of Stingers. Thus this year's Senior Division will have 25 clubs divided into three seeded conferences, Gold, National and American.

The Stingers Blue team is in the nine team National Conference while the Camarillo Gray squad is in the American Conference.

The following schedule can still change based on the availability of fields.

Camarillo Stingers Senior Blue
2025 Schedule
Home Games at Camarillo H.S.
Aug. 30 vs. North Valley Bears 6:00 p.m.
Sept. 6 vs. Santa Clarita Wildcats Gold 8:00 p.m.
Sept. 13 at Santa Clarita Wildcats Navy 6:00 p.m.
Sept. 20 at El Rio Spartans 4:00 p.m.
Sept. 27 vs. Calabasas Rams Black 6:00 p.m.
Oct. 4 vs. Oxnard Panthers 12:00 Noon
Oct. 11 vs. Saugus Spartans Navy 8:00 p.m.
Oct. 18 vs. Simi Valley Bulldogs Black 8:00 p.m.

Five games at Camarillo H.S. is a plus for sure.

The September 13th game vs. Santa Clarita Wildcats Navy will be played at West Ranch H.S.

The September 20th contest against the El Rio Spartans will be played at Rio Mesa H.S.

The October 4th game against the Oxnard Panthers is listed as a home game for the Stingers but will be played at a neutral site, Moorpark H.S.

LET THE SEASON BEGIN!

Reading Is FUNdamental!

An interesting historical non-fiction read

This book is filled with insightful notes from the author's touring of 15 Southern states in 1998 and 1999 while Civil War Reenacting. Even this tome could only scratch the surface of the South's obsession with their "Lost Cause" and the broader social issues that still plague us a quarter of a century later.

It was a really good read, especially if you have two die-hard Civil War Reenactors in your family!
