We enjoyed a quiet week at home with a fun ending at a play in Thousand Oaks.
Let's see,
Paul, Michael, Julien, Jacob. . .
WAY more than three!
Another highly enjoyable
Taco Tuesday
This week we dined at Kalaveras in Oxnard where a total of seven delicious street tacos between the two of us cost a mere $15 USD.
In Ventura for some Taco Tuesday
desserts at a spot recommended
by dear friend Debi Murphy
Good call, Debi!
On Friday night, we headed down
Thousand Oaks for a play
Conejo Players Theater on this
warm Friday night
A well acted local community theater with good direction and solid production values continue to bring great joy to the two of us.
Now for some news from the net . . .
This great, iconic place in Balboa Island
popped up on someone's Facebook post
On July 4, 1965, a group of recent graduates from St. Francis H.S. gathered here for marvelous frozen bananas while deciding what to do this holiday evening.
As we finished, another SFHS alum strode up to us and informed us of a party in nearby Costa Mesa, did we want to go?
It sounded good to all of us, so we packed into someone's car and joined the festivities.
Wouldn't you know it, little Laurie Gardner was at the party. She had turned my head the moment I'd met her about a year or so before this fateful, warm Summer night.
By the end of the evening we had shared our first kiss.
The rest, as they say, is history.
I loved the old AFL
The European League of Football
boots up again after a league
wide bye week
Can the Fehérvár Enthroners (0-10), the Cologne Centurions (0-10) or the Helvetic Mercenaries (0-10) finally get a win on Saturday?
The Prague Lions (6-4) with another
great poster for their Sunday tilt
against the Frankfurt Galaxy (5-5)
Speaking of American football teams in the Czech Republic not involved in the ELF, here are the winners of the 2025 DI, DII and DIII leagues.
DI Czech Bowl XXXII Champions
The Vysočina Gladiators
DII Silver Bowl XX Champions
The Brno Sígrs
DIII Bronze Bowl XI Champions
Hradec Králové Dragons
Neither I nor Google Translate have a clue as to what a Sígrs actually is.
Should you be in Italy or Germany
next November . . .
Team Canada with not one but two big games when they hit the Continent.
The FCS pre-season poll
That is the UC Davis Aggies in the #8 slot. Ranked just ahead of them at #7 are the Montana Grizzlies.
In 2021, the Huskies lost their season opener to the Grizzlies, 13-7.
The Washington Huskies host the Aggies on September 6th.
Be wary Dawgs!
On the other hand, the Huskies have
the second best all-time winning streak
in NCAA Division I history
Granted, that streak occurred during the 1908-1916 seasons under the legendary coach, Gil Dobie. This 40 game winning streak extended to an overall 64 game unbeaten beaten streak that included three ties.
During this run, the Huskies outscored their hapless opponents by an incredible 1,930 points to a mere 118 tallies.
Now, THAT'S a press box!
Los Angeles Rams is about to Kickoff!
True for Laurie and her cat Toby
I ate here once with Paul Sabolić,
GREAT SPOT!
That would be me
I miss our Spanish life in the
Principality of Asturias
At least they were all blog followers
Reading Is FUNdamental!
A great read about life in the Spanish
Civil War's International Brigades
I have read a lot about these International Brigades like the Abraham Lincoln and George Washington Brigades that fought with the left leaning, duly elected Republicans during this bloody conflict but I was not aware that General Francisco Franco's Nationalist side also had recruits flock in from all over the globe to support his Fascist troops.
I believe that Fascist leanings may, unfortunately, always be part of the human experience.
Overall though, this was an excellent, historically accurate read.
