Camarillo Classic Middle School Flag Football Game

The last game of the 2023 Camarillo Middle Schools Flag Football season was being played today between two long time rivals, the Monte Vista Toros and the host Las Colinas Mustangs.

Needless to say, it was a BEAUTIFUL day for American football!

This game was billed as the Camarillo Classic with the winner taking home . . .

. . . this good looking trophy that

the Mustangs last won in 2021

The Mustangs beat the Toros last

Wednesday on this same field, 27-6

The Las Colinas Mustangs, who had endured some close games, entered the game with a seemingly glossy 6-0 record.

The Monte Vista Toros, record unknown, were looking to end their season with a huge upset.

At the beginning of the season the coaches told the players than when we got to this particular game, they were going to give the lion's share of the playing time to the Eighth Graders who were playing in their final game for Las Colinas.

Thus Jacob expected not to play much today which was ok with all of us as he, as a Sixth Grader, had been a two way starter who rarely left the field during the season. Add to that the fact that he had none gone to school on Monday and Tuesday made not playing much today even more understandable.

I did love his attitude when he left our home yesterday. He said, "Poppo, I have to go to school on Wednesday, if I don't then they won't let me suit up for the Camarillo Classic game."

There were lots of yardage racked up by both teams but few points as the first 20 minutes of the game came to a close.
