There were no major events on our usually busy Camarillo social calendar, a chance to catch our collective breaths.
On Tuesday night, I headed over to
the Monte Vista Middle School gym
to watch Jacob's CYBA practice

One last time
Jacob's Pop Warner team finally had their year end meal at Topper's Pizza on Wednesday evening, a mere nine weeks after their last game.

Celebrating the UW Men's Soccer
DI NCAA Championship!
Now that's more like it, but again, no sale.
The Huskies (16-6-2) won their first ever NCAA Soccer Championship by beating North Carolina State (16-3-4), 3-2 in Overtime. The game was played in Cary, North Carolina.

This was Delaware's first season at the FBS level.
The 68 Ventures Bowl was played in Mobile, Alabama.
Delaware (7-6) defeated Louisiana (6-7), 20-13.
If only Delaware still ran the Delaware Wing-T Offense . . .
An exciting three days of
televised NFL & college football
It started with this NFC West
marquee matchup Thursday night
The Los Angeles Rams (11-3) were on the road playing the Seattle Seahawks (11-3).
In the balance was the #1 NFC seed and the lead in the division.
That coveted #1 seed brings with it the only bye in the first round of the NFC playoffs and the home field advantage in all subsequent NFC playoff games.
The Rams had attempted and made the first Field Goal of the game which worried me greatly.
As you may have heard from me before, analytic statistics tells us that the first team that attempts a Field Goal in a game loses 75% of the time.
Maybe this would be one of those games in the other 25%.
With eight minutes left in the game, the Rams had a seemingly commanding 30-14 lead.
Two minutes later, the score was tied 30-30, thanks to a Seahawks Punt Return for a TD, a long TD pass and two successful two-point conversions.
The second of those conversions was a bit controversial but I believe that it was the correct call.
It started with a backwards pass that a Rams defender knocked down. Everyone on the field reacted as if it were an incomplete pass, play over. Everyone including a Seahawk RB who saw the ball resting on the ground about a foot into the End Zone. He casually picked the up out of instinct but with no inkling of the significance of his action. He then just proceeded to walk off the field assuming that the Seahawks still trailed by two points.
Not so. Instant replay showed that it was definitely not a forward pass and that the Seattle RB's semi-unconscious move to pick up the now ruled loose ball gave the Seahawks the necessary two points to tie up the game.
The truth is stranger than fiction.
The game headed to Overtime where the Rams opening drive resulted in seven points giving them a 37-30 lead.
All the Rams Defense had to do was not let Seattle score a TD.
Seattle did and for the third consecutive conversion, went for two.
DAMN!
Yes the Seahawks completed a pass for the win, the first ever NFL game to end with a successful two-point PAT.
The Rams were indeed part of the 75%.

The American football team representing the Havana (Cuba) Athletic Club defeated the Tulane University Green Wave, 11-0, in 1909. AWESOME!
Don't forget that the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner was a Cuban-American, Fernando Mendoza, the QB for the #1 ranked Indiana University Hoosiers.

The list includes nine Canadian universities, six from Mexico and five from Japan.
The Spanish Second Division's
2025-2026 season has started
It is a soft opening.
This season there are 29 teams playing in the five Spanish DII conferences.
The season started last weekend with but one game that saw the Villamayor Mercenarios (1-0) edge our beloved Guadalajara Stings (0-1), 8-6, in a Norte Conference tilt.
This coming weekend, there will be two Levante Conference games played.
The Alicante Sharks (0-0) take on our old club, the Murcia Cobras (0-0) on Saturday.
On Sunday, LFNA 2 action will see the Alicante Thunder (0-0) on the road against the Valencia Giants (0-0).
The next round of LFNA 2 games are scheduled for January 10-11, 2026, when five more games are on the docket.
After January 11th, one team, the Guadalajara Stings will have played two game while 14 teams have played once.
Four weeks after the LFNA 2 season opener was played, 14 teams will still have not played their first games.
The four teams in the Sur Conference will be the last ones to finally play opening games on the weekend of January 31-February 1. That Saturday, Jerez Jaguars (0-0) will host the Sevilla Linces (0-0) while on Sunday the Canarias Canes (0-0) will fly to the mainland to take on the Mairena Blue devils (0-0). That's a mere seven weeks after the first game of the season was played.
Spanish scheduling is, as always, interesting.
