A Trip to Santa Barbara for Another Camarillo Stingers Game

Saturday, September 30, 2023

We drove north about one hour for Jacob's Camarillo Stingers game.

The game site was beautiful . . .

Santa Barbara City College's
La Playa Stadium

Their great stands provide . . .

. . . perhaps the BEST view from
any stadium in all of California

That is the Pacific Ocean with one of the Channel Islands, Santa Cruz Island I believe, in the distance.

We were in attendance to hopefully play a better game than the ones we've played the last two weeks.

3 Wins - 2 Losses

at

2 Wins - 2 Losses

Both teams would rely on
their running games today

Stingers Defensive Pursuit

There would be battles at the
line of scrimmage all day long

Every yard had to be earned in
the early going today

WRAP HIM UP!

Camarillo's Offense on the move

Getting to the edge

The push on the Goal Line . . .

. . . brought the Stingers the
first points of the game

The Two-Point PAT . . .

. . . was GOOD!

Back on Defense . . .

. . . meant running to the ball again

A one-on-one tackle that just
had to be made, and it was

End of the First Quarter
Camarillo - 8
Santa Barbara - 0

The Saints still kept attacking the
perimeters of the Stingers Defense

Jacob in at Defensive End

Keep fighting for that all important
outside leverage young man!

Lots of hats to the ball

Good pursuit angles

Jacob recovering a
Santa Barbara squib Kickoff

The Stingers pounding the rock . . .

. . . over and . . .

. . . over and . . .

. . . and over . . .

. . . and over . . .

. . . again

It would not be enough in the second stanza to maintain the Camarillo lead.

At the Halftime Intermission
Santa Barbara - 12
Camarillo - 8

Jacob recovering another Saints
squib Kickoffs to start the Second Half

Stingers still running

Good looking hole on this play

Camarillo would turn the ball over
on downs deep in Saints territory

Good pass rush by a Camarillo LB

The Stingers played better in this
scoreless period

End of the Third Quarter
Santa Barbara - 12
Camarillo - 8

The Stingers were still battling

Surrounding this Saints ball carrier

If we could just get #0 blocked . . .

Breaking a tackle

Lots of effort but the Saints prevailed

One bright spot for Camarillo in the Fourth Quarter was Defensive End Jacob's recovery of a Santa Barbara fumble giving the team some last minute hope.

Final Score
Santa Barbara (3-2) - 18
Camarillo (3-3) - 8

It was a tough to lose our third straight game but, truth be told, we played much better this week.

After the game, we stopped in Carpinteria for dinner at Pizza Man Dan's.

Mary proudly announcing that
she lost another tooth last night

Love this girl to the moon and back!

A post-game ice cream helped
heal Jacob's psyche a bunch

The ice cream helped Mary
too it would appear

Ice Cream solves a lot of problems I am told.

The Stingers now have a Bye week before returning to action for their last two games of the regular season.

A Bye Week means but one thing,
ROAD TRIP!

Jacob, Michael and I will travel to the East Coast for the weekend to visit New York City for a day before heading up the gorgeous Hudson River Valley to West Point to watch Saturday's football game between the Boston College Eagles (2-3) and the Army Black Knights (2-2).

On a final Saturday football note . . .

The 7th Ranked Huskies had
a close shave in the Arizona desert

The Washington Huskies (5-0, 2-0 PAC-12) were 17 1/2 point favorites going into this contest against Arizona Wildcats (3-2, 1-1 PAC-12).

Still, a win is a win and we'll take it.
