Las Colinas Mustangs Flag Football Team Does It Again!

Wednesday, October 18, 2023

After an overall good few hours visiting my Mother in Pasadena, I was off to Camarillo for another of Jacob's flag football game.

I was concerned about the heat for all of those playing, coaching and watching today's game.

It had been HOT in Pasadena,
were we really in mid-October?

Of even hotter news this week from the world of flag football was this announcement . . .

. . . from the organizers of the
2028 Los Angeles Olympics

The LA28 Olympic organizers are adding six sports to their agenda.

Baseball and Softball will be making returns as Olympic sports, they were both last in the Summer Games in the Covid pandemic delayed 2021 Tokyo Olympiad XXXII. The 2024 Paris Olympics to be held in Paris will not include these two sports.

Cricket's last Olympic appearance was in the 1900 Paris Olympiad II.

Lacrosse was last played as an exhibition sport in the 1948 London Olympiad XIV.

Squash competition will make its all-time debut as an Olympic sport in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympiad XXXIV.

Which leaves us with one more sport making its all-time Olympic debut . . .

. . . FLAG FOOTBALL!

This was awesome news for many of us.

Flag football is a HUGE part of the EuroBall scene, so we are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces either on the fields or in the stands in five years.

Let's see, in five years Jacob will be 16, probably a bit too young to make TEAM USA.

More at hand though was today's game in the heat.

What heat?

A solid reminder about why living in Camarillo is so much nicer than residing in Pasadena just 50 miles to the South.

Mary was IN THE HOUSE!

The orange streaks in her hair matched both her Autumn themed outfit and the condition of the "grass" on Mesa Union's field.

This opening Kickoff was the
last moment that the game would
be even remotely close

The only hope for Mesa Union's field would be a quick fix by George "The Sodfather" Toma who prepared every Super Bowl field for the NFL from 1967-2023.

Maybe not so much of a quick fix actually.

We were all happy to see the Mustangs coaches do the right thing in taking out most of their key players, give their backups more playing time and attempt to minimize any more embarrassment to the Tigers.

Jacob's new look towel for
this Saturday's Stingers game

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month which means that pink is worn at games to support this more than worthy cause.

Two weeks ago when we attended the John Jay H.S. Patriots football game during our recent West Point, New York trip, many were wearing and/or waving this pink towel in support of Cancer survivors with the distinctive John Jay logo on it.

Michael bought this towel at the game and now Jacob will sport it on the field against the Calabasas Rams Black (7-0) team at Ventura H.S. for the Stingers (4-3) final regular season game.

Wednesday was a good day.
