The past two days set my mind to wandering on one of the biggest passions of my life, Travel, Exploration, new Cultures, new Cuisines and Adventure.

I wonder if the Gijón Mariners are

entered into the Ávila Bowl?

On Saturday, the Gijón Mariners

play in their 100th regular season

Spanish Seria A/DI game against

the Osos Rivas

The Mariners have played in Spain's DI, DII and DIII levels over their 26 seasons of existence, 15 of them in DI.

The Mariners overall record in 99 Serie A games to date is 26-73.

The Mariners have never had a winning record in Serie A competition. The Asturias Province club's best DI seasons were three 4-4 records in 2008, 2018 and 2022.

Gracias to the Mariners Co-Founder and current Flag Football Coach, Daniel Casteñon, for the for sharing the team's rocky history with us.

Still, coaching them last year was one of my all-time favorite overall EuroBall coaching experiences.

The process of organizing the 50th Anniversary Reunion of the 1976 Thousand Oaks H.S. Marmonte League Football Championship team has begun.

Wednesday's task was researching a newly suggested spot for the reunion.

The food was good, the space ample but the parking was a negative.

We may be headed back to the Sunset Terrace where we held similar reunions for the Thousand Oaks H.S. Marmonte League Football Championship teams of 1972, 1973 and 1974 in the past.

Sobering

After dropping two Atomic weapons on Japan to effectively bring World War II in 1945 to a close, the government of the USA tried to suppress the facts of the aftereffects of the bombings from the American public.

The New Yorker magazine commissioned John Hersey to do a story on the Hiroshima bombing which was to be published in their August 31, 1946 issue.

Hersey interviewed six survivors of the dreaded attack, a clerk, a widowed seamstress, a physician, a Methodist minister, a young surgeon, and a German Jesuit priest.

The New Yorker editors found Hersey's work so deep and important in their opinions that for the only time in the magazine's history, they published Hersey's Hiroshima story, and only his story, in that long ago issue.

This book is a reprint of that lengthy New Yorker article plus a newer final chapter that revisits the same six survivors' lives forty years after the bombing.

This book was heartfelt, deep, historical and disturbing all at once.
