Grandma's Coffee House in Kula has been roasting and blending organic coffee since 1918. Besides coffee, this rural Upcountry Maui classic restaurant is famous for their Eggs Benedict on Sundays.
Today was Sunday.
We drove pass these photogenic
trees just past Puunene
The problem with the village of Kula
is that, "You can't get there from here!"
As the crow flies, the distance from our condo to Grandma's is listed at a mere 5.6 miles.
The problem is that the four of us don't fit on the backs of any crows in Hawaii and there is no road up the Mt. Haleakalā volcano directly between the two sites.
Thus we were forced to once again take the 46 minute drive on the Upcountry's Great Circle Route to get our morning sustenance.
Once there, we found Grandma's
to be 1,000% on Island Time
First, we waited in a short line for about fifteen minutes to order.
Once we got to the front of the line, we waited a few more minutes for someone to take our order.
Finally, there was another long wait before our food arrived at our table.
Again, Grandma's was not crowded at all. It was all good as no one was in a hurry, we were on vacation after all.
As Grandma herself would attest,
the food was well worth the wait

while we waited
The view from the Grandma's
patio dining area was nice
It would not be a true Maui dining
experience without a free range rooster
to watch over our meal
My Kalua Pork Moco Loco was
OUTSTANDING!
Laurie, Mark and Susie all ordered the Eggs Benedict and were quite happy with their choices as well.
We were now a tad fat and sassier than when we arrived but were in need of a restroom which Grandma's does not have.
There was a clean public restroom located about a quarter of a mile away.
Go left out of Grandma's and past
the Ching Store . . .
. . . cross the street and continue to
walk past the church . . .
. . . go up the steps into the park and
you'll find the restroom at the top
of the hill to the left
The walk was a piece of cake after that solid breakfast.
We opted to all pile back into the car and head down to the seaside town of Paia.

We may have to return to Paia
on Monday night
THEY'RE OFF AND SHOPPING!
I actually made the only two purchases in Paia today, a cool Hawaiian shirt and a hot cappuccino.

The Road to Hana drive is a once
in a lifetime experience
We did it in about 1983 during our first to Maui. Once is enough.

One of our favorite Paia dining spots
was closed for minor refurbishing today
The rest of our day was spent going to the beach, reading, napping, watching the BIG-XII wrestling finals and day dreaming.
It just depends who you ask.

In the evening we watched the Hawaii
Electrical Bike Parade from our balcony
They are hard to see, but each bike has a ton of bright lights displayed artfully.
It was another big day of action in EuroBall . . .
The 1-0 Varese Skorpions were in
Rome to play the 0-1 Lazio Marins
The Italian Football League had
two DI games slated today
The 1-1 Legnano Frogs shocked the
2-1 Torino Giaguari!
What really surprised me was that the Frogs defense held the Giaguari to only seven points. Torino had scored 43 and 42 points in their first two games, both wins.
The Skorpions are starting 2024 HOT!
