We start this post back on the mainland with news from the end of the 2024 CYBA Grade 6 Basketball Tournament.
While we were living the high life in Maui, Jacob's Orange team was slugging its way to the end of the CYBA's post-season tournament.
The scrappy Grade 6 Orange squad
L. to R.: #3 Jackson, #13 Jeremiah, #12 Ry'El, #4 Enzo, #5 Jacob, #10 David, #11 Miguel and #14 Teddy
Having each won their first two playoff games, the #1 seeded Tigers (11-0) and the #3 seeded Orange (8-3) squared off on Wednesday night in the last game of the unbeaten side of the playoff bracket.
The winner would go straight to the Championship Game or Games on Saturday.
The loser would have their first loss of the double elimination playoffs and would play in the Consolation bracket final on Friday night for the right to play at least one more game on Saturday for the league title.
In their regular season game, the Tigers beat the Orange soundly, 38-27, on January 6th's opening game.

It did not go well on Wednesday night as the Tigers (12-0) remained undefeated on the season with an easy 25-10 victory over the Orange (8-4).
The Tigers would get to rest until Saturday while the Orange needed to vanquish the #2 seeded Trojans (8-4) on Friday night for another shot at the crown.
In their regular season matchup, the Orange beat the Trojans, 26-19, on February 17th. The two teams met again in Round 2 of the playoffs with the Orange winning again, 30-28, on March 2nd.
The Orange (9-4) played a solid game on Friday night and beat the Trojans (8-5), 31-26, for the third time this season.
That gave the Tar Heels their second playoff loss thus ending their season. The Orange, still hurting from their Wednesday night drubbing at the hands of the #1 seeded Tigers (12-0) had another crack at spoiling an undefeated campaign.
The two clubs would meet at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club Gym in Camarillo.
If the Tigers won, then the Orange would have their second tournament loss and the Tigers would be the Champions of the CYBA's Grade 6 circuit.
If the Orange won, then both teams would have one loss in the tournament thus necessitating an second game on today at 1:30 p.m. in the same gym to determine the Champions.
Every free throw, shot and
rebound would matter today
Jacob reportedly played smothering
defense and even scored a bucket
in the morning game
The Orange (10-4) played with grit in handing the Tigers (12-1) their first loss of 2024, 27-22.
Again, this is a double elimination tournament, both the Tigers and Orange now had the one tournament loss to each other.
Thus, a penultimate, season finale Tigers-Orange game for all of the marbles loomed at 1:30 p.m.
Jacob swatting a Tiger shot away
It was a tight game all of the way but the now miracle Orange (11-4) took the measure of the Tigers (12-2) yet again, 26-22!
We were told that Jacob played his two best games of the year on Saturday.
A proud grandparent moment to be sure. Way to go Jacob!

Awesome, simply AWESOME!
On Saturday, Kevin and Andrew
attended the Henderson Silver Knights'
Star Wars themed hockey game
The Silver Knights are the NHL Vegas Golden Knights' American Hockey League affiliate whose ticket prices are family friendly.
The Silver Knights lost, 6-0, to the Abbotsford Canucks on Saturday.
How we wish that we could spend more time with our Vegas side of the family.
Meanwhile, back in the 50th state . . .

Catching up on the latest gossip of the day is always fun.

This is a fun group of people that are all retired and living their winter months enjoying Maui's tropical climate. The Johnsons befriended them over the years during their trips to Starbucks for necessary morning stimulants.

We found some new family heirloom treasures to take home as we realized that we had not eaten anything yet today.
No problem, we knew a place . . .
Just minutes from the
University of Hawaii's Maui Campus
For my money, the Tasty Crust, an old locals hangout that is moderately priced, serves the absolute best banana pancakes on Maui.
I was not disappointed in the least.
In the afternoon, Susie and Laurie opted for the condo's pool as the weather was warm but it was overcast and windy again today. Getting sand blasted at the beach was simply not a priority.
Mark and I stayed in the condo to do equal measures of reading, working and resting.
In the evening we were joined for dinner by Mark's cousin Chris and his lovely bride Jenny who live on Maui during the Winter months.
We traveled Upcountry yet again for a meal at a new sight for us.
It was a beautiful hillside setting

The main spirit that they distill here is vodka. They also have an extensive list of rums and gins on their delightful menu.
Their Ocean Organic Vodka is the priority
The rum looked healthy for any
good seafaring folk
We all liked their vodka bottles
The view from our dinner table
Just another fabulous dining
experience in Paradise
The huge Cuban Calzone that Laurie and I shared was tremendously moist and flavorful.
The Ocean Organic vodka lemongrass shack cocktail that I had was smooth, delicious and patently dangerous if I had more than one.
This distillery is, to be sure, an excellent spot for a good dinner and the opportunity to view a spectacular Maui sunset.

The only question for Sunday on Maui is, where are we eating?
