There was some activity in the morning but the "Big Deal of the Day" was easily grandson Jacob's first Summer practice with the 2026 Camarillo H.S Scorpions Frosh football team.
We did have news from Europe today concerning our shipments of used football gear.
France's Villeurbanne Falcons
received their box today
It contained four shoulder pads, ten pairs of unused cleats, seven practice jerseys and three bags of much needed helmet hardware.
Word also reached us today that Poland's Zabki Dukes received a box from us containing one helmet, 13 face masks, four practice jerseys, one neck roll and tons of helmet parts.
It's good to know that both boxes got to Europe safe and sound.
At 8:00 the morning, right on time, we heard loud noises outside our front window.
Just as advertised, the City of Camarillo's road work crew was busy starting a three day project to re-surface Calle Higuera.

Unlike our neighbor, we followed the city's orders to not park on the street the next three days so that they could easily accomplish their task.
My car does not fit in our garage so I parked around the corner on another street that is not being re-surfaced allowing me the opportunity to up my step count these next three days.
Physical fitness is a must at my age.

Practice tonight was scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and would be without pads.

The Scorpions coaches stated that 63 kids have signed up for the team.

After the warm-ups, the players were divided up into groups and went through two separate four station circuits of basic movement and football specific drills for the coaches to evaluate their skills.

I'm happy to report that he caught every pass that he got his hands on including a leaping acrobatic catch that astounded me.

So ended a good first day
of the Frosh football experience
Other than his blocking, I thought that he had a terrific first day surrounded by positive attitude coaches.
He showed good speed in his drills which caught my eye.
We're back at it again.
There was one more thing to mention on this first day, the never ending need for fundraising.

Every player in the Camarillo H.S. football program is asked to sell 15 of these cards at $20 a piece. The discounts that they offer are quite good actually.
Of course, I was Jacob's first sale.
After practice, I offered to buy him dinner. I thought he'd ask to go to McDonald's, instead he opted for Estabalos Market for one of their signature pollo burritos.
I myself went with the delicious al pastor burrito.
Fully sated, when we got to his house he got out of the car and sold another card to the neighbors across the street. By the time that I got home, he had sold a total of four cards to the people living on his street.
Do we have a budding salesman on our hands?
Seems like it.
