More Pop Warner Football and a Few Other Things to Report

Tues.-Thurs., July 18-20, 2023

The never ending stream of American football doings, both foreign and domestic, continued these past few days.

On Tuesday, I was off to Buena H.S.
to watch some 7-on-7 games in Ventura

El Camino Real H.S. Royals, in blue,
vs. Hueneme H.S. Vikings

Man Coverage

The 1-on-1 battle is paramount
in 7-on-7 play

An ECR LB moving into coverage

The ball's trajectory seems odd
coming out of this QB's hand

That darn ball draws a crowd

Good play by the Vikings defenders

Five in a line

Looks like Zone coverage to me

These are "One Hand Touch" games
and this ECR defender already made
the tag to end the play

Same goes for this Viking DB

Lots of torque on the
Hueneme QB's elbow

Besides El Camino Real and Hueneme, teams from Santa Barbara H.S. Dons, Santa Paula H.S. Cardinals and the host Buena H.S. Bulldogs were also on hand.

I watched about a game and a half of the competition before heading out to my next American football destination in Camarillo.

Tuesday was Day II of the Stingers
"Hell Week"

Jacob going over the bags again

Some of Jacob's teammates
practicing their blocking techniques

More bag drills

This Offensive Lineman looks
FIERCE to me!

Running . . .

. . . "Hell Week" is all about running

Some leaping too it appears

Jacob doing a near perfect
forward roll

One must accessorize at all times

On Wednesday, I missed Jacob's
practice to stay at home with Mary

She was delightful, a princess who likes to play in the mud she created in our back yard.

On Thursday, the Stingers were back at it

Run, Run, Run

Leg Lifts can be grueling
Bear Crawls are a staple of
any self respecting "Hell Week"

SPRINT Jacob, he's gaining on you!

Quarter Eagles always bring
the blood back into your thighs

Another station, more bag drills

Step over drill

A different form of Ladder Drill

teammate acting as a Hound behind him

Are you having fun Jacob?

Speaking of the Rams . . .

Mary with some Los Angeles Rams
Cheerleaders who visited Vanessa's
school on Tuesday

They taught the school kids some of their cheers and posed for several photos.

Jacob thought tagging along
was a GREAT idea

Meanwhile, I was in Thousand Oaks
at one of my favorite fine dining spots,
Bad Ass Street Tacos . . .

. . . to meet with my former Rio Mesa
High School colleague Martha Jimenez-Ito

Martha had just returned from a whirlwind two week trip to Paris, Lyon, Geneva, Bern, Milan, Verona and Venice with her niece.

It was wonderful learning about all of her travel experiences.

The three Bad Ass Street Tacos I had were as amazing as ever.

The European League of Football's
latest Power Rankings

The Helvetic Guards made a big move up these rankings to #11 after their upset of the previously undefeated, now #4 Stuttgart Surge last weekend.

The ELF's Playoff picture if
the post-season started now

The two conference champion teams deemed to be the best based on record, head-to-head competition and point differentials get Round One byes.

The remaining conference champion and the three conference second place squads will then play each other in Round One.

With teams all having either six or seven games left in the regular season, things can still change, especially for the second place positions.

Speaking of games still to be played, the ELF finally came up for a way to deal with the Leipzig Kings officially dropping out of the league at mid-season.

the ELF's solution to the
Leipzig problem

A tad convoluted but if all of the teams are happy, I'm happy too.

A good few days to be sure.
