Good News, Bad News and a EuroBall Championship Weekend

Thu., June 29-Sun., July 2, 2023

Life has its ups . . .

A BIG up for Vanessa this week!

She has been promoted to Principal at an elementary school in the Ventura Unified School District!

After serving as a Counselor at a different elementary school in the same district for the last two years, her reputation for being a hard working advocate for kids, plus being bi-lingual, made her a solid choice for this demanding new position.

Congratulations Vanessa!

Life also has its downs . . .

My Mother during a positive pet
therapy session on Wednesday

Later that evening, she was diagnosed with pneumonia which is decidedly not a good thing for a 98 year old person in already declining health.

After much soul searching between my sisters Marilyn, Linda and myself, the truly difficult, decision was made to change her from palliative care to hospice care. She will remain in the same skilled nursing facility where she has been since last December.

The next few days, weeks, months will be even more difficult I suspect.

I found this amazing spot
in Glendale last Friday

Since I was heading to Mom's monthly end of the month dinner, I only shopped for some excellent Italian pasta, sauces, sausages and soup for a home cooked meal on Sunday.

Laurie did an amazing job turning these ingredients into a great Sunday dinner.

Speaking of Laurie

This news just in from a recent copy
of France magazine

A little late perhaps for five star blog follower Paul Sabolic but important travel information nonetheless.

Can anyone possibly disagree?

On to tons of EuroBall news . . .

On Saturday, four National Championship
games were contested

The Oslo Vikings defeated the
Eidsvoll 1814's, 42-30 to win
the Championship of Norway

The Netherlands National Championship
game saw the Amsterdam Crusaders
defeating the Brussels Black Angels, 17-7

The French National Championship
was won by the Thonon Black Panthers
who beat the Marseilles Blue Stars, 35-18

This capped a big season for the Black Panthers who also won the Central European Football League tournament championship last weekend.

Now, as for that fourth National Championship game . . .

In Toledo, Ohio, the Italian National
Championship game was being
hyped to perfection

Actually, both teams were 7-1
with Parma beating the Guelfi,
25-7, on April 22nd

Statistical Comparisons

Stars for both teams

The starting line-ups

Enough of the hype, the experts felt that the defending National Champion Guelfi would win based on two factors. First, it was believed that the Guelfi owned a more explosive offense and also that the return of several Firenze players who were unable to play in the regular season game with the Panthers would be the difference.

So much for all the expert analysis,
the Panthers won Italian Bowl XLII

The final IFL playoff bracket

Congratulations to the always
competitive Parma Panthers

The Panthers have now won six Italian National Championships at the DI level in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2021 and 2023.

On to the European League of football . . .

The financially troubled Leipzig Kings
are selling hoodies to try to keep afloat

The Kings are still up for
winning despite their woes

The ELF Power Rankings going
into Week #5

Only the 2-2 Barcelona Dragons
were not playing a Week #5 game

No big surprises this week
other than perhaps Paris' 27-23 win
over the Hamburg Sea Devils

The ELF's three conferences continue to separate the good from the average and not so good clubs.

The Rhien Fire continue to shine in the West
with the Frankfurt Galaxy in hot pursuit

The Stuttgart Surge lead Central with
the Tirol Raiders nipping at their heels

In the East, the defending EFL Champion
Vienna Vikings have a slight lead over
the Wroclaw Panthers

The ELF's six new expansion teams (Fehérvár Enthroners, Helvetic Guards, Milano Seamen, Munich Ravens, Paris Musketeers and Prague Lions) continue to struggle going 1-5 in Week #5 games and 5-22 on the season.

As the ELF's third season nears the half way mark, only six of the 17 clubs seem to be in contention for the four playoff spots, two from each conference.

The top clubs appear to be the Rhein Fire (5-0) and Frankfurt Galaxy (3-1) in the West, the Stuttgart Surge (4-0) and Tirol Raiders (4-1) in the Central and the Vienna Vikings (4-0) and Wroclaw Panthers (4-1) in the East.

ELF WEEK #6 GAMES
Saturday, July 8, 2023
Prague Lions (0-4) at Leipzig Kings (2-3)
Frankfurt Galaxy (3-1) at Milano Seamen (1-3)

Sunday, July 9, 2023
Barcelona Dragons (2-2) at Helvetic Guards (0-5)
Fehérvár Enthroners (0-5) at Berlin Thunder (3-2)
Wroclaw Panthers (4-1) at Hamburg Sea Devils (2-3)
Munich Ravens (2-2) at Rhein Fire (5-0)
Paris Musketeers (2-3) at Stuttgart Surge (4-0)
Vienna Vikings (4-0) at Tirol Raiders (4-1)

BYE: Cologne Centurions (1-4)

Sunday's all-Austrian game between the Vienna Vikings (4-0) and Innsbruck's Tirol Raiders (4-1) should be a dandy!

If nothing else, American football can be a good mental diversion during troubling times.
