We start this post with even more photos from our time in Mexico City with the Warriors thanks to the photographic wizardry of Sue Valdivia and a few anonymous others . . .

She needed some air

What will happen today?

ESPN this week announced their picks for the 150 all-time best college American football coaches in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the start American college football.

Pleased to see that Frosty Westering
made their list in the 39th spot

I had the good fortune to meet Coach Westering in Washington about a year before he passed.

As it turns out, Jason Johnson who was our excellent QB with the Catania Elephants in 2008 and was also a standout signal caller for Arizona back in the day, happened to be Coach Westering's grandson.

We were in Seattle for the Arizona-Washington game on a Saturday night and since Jason was living in Seattle, we opted to drive down to Tacoma in the morning to meet his grandpa who was by then retired from coaching. What a great man and coach he was.

This book by Coach Westering's
on his unusual coaching style and
philosophy was a game changer for me

I had read it about three years before I met him and it definitely put American football in perspective for me to this day. This book should be required reading for coaches of all ages and all sports in my opinion.

ESPN's write-up on Coach Westering

At Pacifica H.S. (14-1) for their practice
before Saturday's California State
Championship game against
McClymonds H.S. (11-0)

Coach Mike Moon's Pacifica Tritons are in their first ever State Championship contest while the McClymonds Warriors have now gone 50-3 in the last four seasons which included State Championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The game will be played at noon on Saturday at Cerritos College in Norwalk. We'll be there supporting the Tritons to be sure!

He just missed it by that much.

It is now officially the Christmas season in Casa Contreras!

I only had one real chance to talk to Frosty, when Pacific Lutheran played Cal Lutheran. You could instantly appreciate his enthusiasm for football and life, and understand how he could have a huge impact not only on those who played for him, but anyone who interacted with him on a regular basis. It's fantastic he's on that list.
