Maybe We Should Change the Name of This Blog to "Coaching for Street Tacos"

Friday, December 6, 2019

It was the day of our last practice before our Europe Warriors took on Team Mexico. It was mostly a day to review the basics of our game plan, get some rest and enjoy a solid, team bonding dinner together.

But first, a couple more of Sue Valdivia's photos from Thursday's Media Day and practice at Estadio Wilfrido Massieu.

Warming up before practice

Bart Iaccarino and I were guests
on Raul Rivera's podcast to discuss
the Europe Warriors project

Raul has been our host this week and is also the Head Coach of Team Mexico. The podcast was being broadcast in Spanish so I had to summon the Holy Ghost to give me the Gift of Tongues for a few minutes.

He did.

Once again, I needed a substantial breakfast to start the day, thus it was off to our . . .

. . . local seven star Michelin
taco shop around the corner
from our Hotel Grand Prix

My nutritional needs met, I was ready for our morning practice.

Our one big sidewalk danger
on the walk to practice each day

Fortunately, we made it through the week without any of our smaller DBs or WRs falling in and being hopelessly lost.

No, I was not arrested by the
local police's Vice Squad

Vice TV needed us to all sign their release forms in order to proceed to video tape all of our game day shenanigans for a short piece on the growth of the great game of American football in the Hispanic community.

It will be another nice touch to the Europe Warriors experience.

Pre-practice warm ups

Ready for action

Lead Option coming at us

We had a clean pocket for
QB Julia Schlatow's pass

A younger group of Team Mexico
girls was getting ready for
a game of their own, so we wished
them Good Luck

Céline Martin from France, who speaks five languages, was doing the honors for us.

It was also Céline's birthday today

Our post-practice stretch

On the walk back to our hotel, we
found these jugglers entertaining
the drivers stopped for a red light
at the hotel's corner

The coaches decided to have lunch together at the same seven star Michelin taco shop where I had breakfast this morning and a few of our players decided to join us.

This Gordita was just as good as the
two tacos al pastor that I ordered

Group dining in our posh taco shop

VIVA MEXICO!

Our taco shop was up to code on all of its electrical components.

I couldn't, but can you spot the
differences in these two photos that
was served up by one of our players?

One of our defensive linemen and our physiotherapist depicted on the left were part of this good natured ribbing.

think that our ladies are quickly becoming a true team.

Our coaching staff decided that we all wanted to do something special for the Warriors tonight so we opted to foot the bill for a good dinner at a highly regarded nearby restaurant.

It was definitely NOT a taco shop

The Warriors checking
out the menu

We started with a trip to the
excellent soup and salad bar

The main attraction of this particular eatery was the wide variety of meats that were served at our tables skewered on sets of sword blades.

Bart was at first shocked
but then . . .

. . . got into the spirit
of the meal

As for the Warriors, we definitely
were have fun when the music started

The team bonding aspect to
tonight's dinner was fun to watch

I really do love this latest edition of fun loving Europe Warriors!  They have been passionate and basically problem free during our preparation for Saturday's game, what more can a coach ask for from his players.

The hard work now behind us, it's time for the joy of playing the game tomorrow.

According to the Mexican Weather Service, Saturday in Mexico City is going to be a BEAUTIFUL day for American football!
