The Championship Game of the Middle School Soccer Season and More Treasures From San Marino

Wed.-Fri., April 10-12, 2024
On Thursday, we gathered at Cabrillo Middle School in Ventura for the Championship Game of the local Middle School soccer league.

Jacob's Las Colinas M.S. Mustangs (4-2), were taking on the league's top team for the crown, the undefeated De Anza Academy of Technology and the Arts Middle School (DATA) Navigators (6-0).

In their two regular season games, DATA beat the Mustangs 1-0 on the road and 2-0 at home.

The First Half ended with the Mustangs shocking everyone in attendance holding a 3-1 lead. The Navigators had not allowed three goals total in their six regular season games.

The DATA Head Coach was visibly and audibly distraught throughout the First Half having never been behind at any point this season.

His Halftime talk to the Navigators definitely worked as it turned out.

Good job, Jacob!

The DATA attack was relentless

The Navigators (7-0) showed championship character in roaring back to beat the Mustangs (4-3, a.k.a., 4 and DATA) by a final score of 7-3.

Meanwhile, in Las Vegas middle school soccer action this week, Kevin's Canarelli M.S. Colts won both of their games to improve to 6-1-1 in their desert conference play.

On Monday, the Colts hosted the Lawrence Junior H.S. Lions. The Colts won a nail biter, 4-3.

In Friday's game, the Colts loaded up their school bus for the journey to Johnson Junior H.S.

Canarelli had a much easier time of it in this contest beating the Eagles, 5-1

While Kevin was on the pitch, Laurie and I drove to San Marino to gather a few more mementos from our ancestral home before it is sold.

Let's take a look at the weekend's American football slate around the globe.

Only two games this weekend in
DI Italian Football League action

The Ancona Dolphins (3-0) are solid favorites at home over the Lazio Marines (1-3).

The Firenze Guelfi (3-1) hit the road to face the dangerous Torino Giaguari (2-2).

The Varese Skorpions (4-0)
have a Bye week

The Firenze Guelfi's next three
home games are all TOUGH!

First, the Guelfi are hosting a Central European Football League playoff game against the Belgrade SBB Wolves who played in the Serbian National Championship Game in 2023.

The CEFL annually provides a tournament setting for the top teams in Europe. This year 13 participating clubs hail from these nine countries: Austria (2 teams), Denmark, France (2), Hungary, Italy (2), Serbia (2), Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Back in IFL play, they will host the Ancona Dolphins (3-0) and then the defending IFL Champion Parma Panthers (2-2).

The BIG GAME in Italy's DIII 9FL

Our old Sicilian club, the Catania Elephants (2-0) will cross the Straights of Messina for their conference showdown with the Crotone Achei (2-0).

Go Elephants GO!

Forfeit Win

In France, for the second time this year, our former French Bron-Villeurbanne Falcons' eleven will win by forfeit over the Pont-de-Claix Blue Devils.

Only in L.A. can one find a 32 team

One of my personal favorites, Villa's Tacos, is in the Semi-Finals. They have my vote top win it all.

If they both win, it will be a classic final, #1 Seeded Tacos Los Cholos against the #2 Seeded Villa's Tacos.

I wonder if they need an impartial judge for the finals?
