A Sleepover, an Eclipse and Lots of EuroBall Info

Sun.-Tues., April 7-9, 2024
With no school on Monday due to a Teachers In-Service Day, we got to host a now rare sleepover on Sunday night.

Jacob was in the lap of luxury
for our evening together

It wasn't all about lazing about though as we had a few lively games . . .

. . . of Dominoes on the agenda

He won the first game and was
fascinated by the various geometric
designs formed during our battles

Monday morning after a solid
evening of sleep dreaming about
swimming with whales in Australia

He is seriously interested in all things related to Marine Biology and Oceanography, thus explaining his REM experiences.

In the morning we made pancakes and Jacob deftly caught the traditional first flapjack that I tossed him from pan to plate.

Sunday's EuroBall bulletins . . .

The only Italian Football League game
on Sunday saw the Firenze Guelfi (3-1)
edge the Legnano Frogs (2-2)

The "We Play For Pizza" Facebook site
does a splendid job with their IFL graphics

I'll have a few more examples of their work later in their post.

Italian Football League Standings
1. Varese Skorpions 4-0
2. Ancona Dolphins 3-0
3. Firenze Guelfi 3-1
4T. Legnano Frogs 2-2
Parma Panthers 2-2
Torino Giaguari 2-2
7. Milano Rhinos 2-4
8. Lazio Marines 1-3
9. Bologna Warriors 0-5

Italian Football League Schedule
Saturday, April 13, 2024
Firenze Guelfi (3-1) at Torino Giaguari (2-2)
Lazio Marines (1-3) at Ancona Dolphins (3-0)
BYES:
Varese Skorpions (4-0), Legnano Frogs (2-2),
Parma Panthers (2-2), Milano Rhinos (2-4)

Now for a random Italian game of interest . . .

A Charity Game in Formigine
this coming Sunday

The Hell Bowl will feature two teams comprised only of players over 40 years of age playing in a game of nine man American football.

I like it.

In Swiss Nationalliga A play

Our old club, the Thun Tigers (1-1), suffered a narrow loss to the St. Gallen Bears (1-0).

The Tigers next game will be this coming Saturday at the home of the traditional Swiss Bad Boys, the Calanda Broncos (2-0).

Our former French team, the Bron-
Villeurbanne Falcons (4-0) had an easy win
over the Châteauneuf-du-Rhône 45èmes (0-3)

Next Sunday, the Falcons will be
hosting the Pont-de-Claix Diables Bleus

I was not able to find the Diables Bleus' 2024 season record but when the two clubs were set to meet earlier this year, Pont-de-Claix forfeited the game.

The Polish DI League started
their season over the weekend

In recent years, Poland has become a hotbed of American football.

Final Spanish Serie A standings

Only the top two teams in each conference earned playoff spots.

In the Eastern Conference, the Badalona Dracs (8-0) are the #1 Seed, while the L'Hospitalet Pioners (5-3) are the #2 Seed.

The Western Conference's #1 seed are the Osos Rivas (7-1) with the #2 Seed going to the Las Rozas Black Demons (7-1

The Spanish Serie A Playoffs
will start in two weeks

Serie A Semi-Final Games
Sunday, April 21, 2024
Las Rozas (7-1) at Badalona (8-0)
L'Hospitalet (5-3at Rivas (7-1)

Spain's Serie B Standings

Even though the game has no apparent playoff implications, the Serie B playoff matchups will not be announced until after the conclusion of a makeup game between the Tres Cantos Jabatos (1-4) and the Fuenlabrada Wolverines (1-4).

Now, as for those good looking We Play For Pizza graphics that I mentioned earlier.

These great graphics are designed to get fans bases excited about upcoming games via Super Hero action logos, a concept that I love.

They are produced for games in all three of the Italian American Football Federation's divisions.

Let's look first at some of the DI IFL graphics and the game's results.

Varese Skorions 7 - Firenze Guelfi 0

I would have loved a bit more actual Skorpion feel to the Varese logo. The Guelfi's looks good to me.

Torino Giaguari 0 - Varese Skorpions 34

The Jaguar looks solid to me.

Milano Rhinos 21 - Ancona Dolphins 30

In my opinion, Rhinos is an excellent football team name as this graphic clearly indicates.

The Aquaman-like graphic for the Dolphins is just so-so for me.

Legnano Frogs 19 - Firenze Guelfi 26

I find a fierce Frog to be fiendishly frightening

Parma Panthers 34 - Varese Skorpions 38

This Panther logo could/should have been much more threatening.

This Panther graphic reminds me of the Lee Meredith portrayal of Catwoman on the classic 1960s Batman TV show, not good.

Now for some DII graphics . . .

Verona Redskins 0 - Brescia Bengals 38

Both look properly menacing to me, but the PC message about the term Redskins has yet to arrive in Italia it seems.

Ferrara Aquile 57 - Roma Grizzlies 13

I like both of these two logos, the Grizzlies' eyes add a sense of urgency to the Roma squad.

Ferrara Aquile 27 - Modena Vipers 12

That Viper is SWEET!

Now, if Modena could just score a few more points to match the Viper's ferocity it would be a good thing.

Savona Pirates 30 - Torino Reapers 3

The Pirate of Penzance style logo is a tad comical, thus the Reaper's eyes again win this logo battle for me.

But not the game.

Ferrara Aquile 60 - Ravenna Chiefs 6

First, the Aquile have a strong club this year.

The Kansas City Chiefs might want to talk to the We Play For Pizza people about purchasing the rights to this strong Ravenna logo.

On to the Italian DIII, a.k.a. Nine Football League, graphics . . .

Milano Rams 36 - Varese Gorillas 0

The Los Angeles Rams front office may want to talk to the We Play For Pizza people too.

Just as with Rhinos, I think that many more American football teams should adopt the name Gorillas.

Terra Ferma Cocai 12 - Trieste Muli 32

I like both of these graphics, but what exactly is a Cocai?

Formigine Honey Badgers 0 -
Trento Thunders 31

Why is the Honey Badger smiling?

The Thunders grimace wins this matchup for me and the game, too.

Cagliari Crusaders 54 - Varese Gorillas 8

The Crusader is a good one.

Why aren't the Gorillas stronger?

Did you know that we had a
Total Eclipse of the Sun on Monday
over North America?

But not over Camarillo

We were cool with just a partial eclipse but still exercised proper safety measures in viewing it.

You have to be a Baseball fan
to get this reference

Hey, it's Taco Tuesday . . .

Another round of tacos with Laurie in the
bliss that is Ruby's Mexican Restasurant

Tacos lovers everywhere will argue but
there is no denying the wonderful taste of
BACON!
