A Fond Farewell and, What Else, More Football

Friday, April 26, 2024

Sadly, I once again needed to attend a memorial service, this time for a former student who was known to all as an upbeat, positive and selfless community servant in the Conejo Valley.

When I taught at Thousand Oaks H.S.
in the early 1970s, Brett was one
of our special needs students

He became everybody's friend via his positive personality and infectious smile.

After high school, Brett became an active part of all three Conejo Valley high schools in a wide variety of roles.

He was also became an integral part of the local chapters of the Ventura County Sheriffs Department and the Ventura County Fire Department. Crossing the nearby county line, he also endeared himself to units of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Brett's Memorial was held at
Westlake Village's cavernous
Calvary Community Church

We had easily 1,000 people in attendance to say a fond farewell to a man who simply made the lives of everyone he came in contact with better.

His passing brought many of his friends together one more time to share stories about his legendary life.

With Paul Gomes and Larry Mohr

Paul and Larry graduated with Brett from Thousand Oaks H.S. in 1977. They were also the Co-Captains of the Lancers 1976 Marmonte League Championship team.

Good bye to a sweet soul.

On to football news of the day . . .

A reminder about the rare First Round
draft pick by the Rams yesterday

I guess you can still find a way
to win without an early draft pick

The Rams added to their DL
with this selection

Round Two was completed today

More help for the Rams DL

A fourth Washington Husky was
selected at #37 by the Patriots . . .

. . . and a fifth Husky, Jacob's favorite,
was taken #62 by the Baltimore

The Third Round of the NFL
draft was also completed today

A GREAT acquisition by the
Rams, if you ask me

It never hurts to add a Miami
Hurricanes DB to your roster

The Third Round saw two more Washington Huskies off the board to make it seven Dawgs picked in the first 100 selections of this draft.

The Atlanta Falcons took this Husky
Edge rusher at # 74 . . .

. . . while Tampa Bay selected this
prized UW WR

Now we will wait and see who the Rams pick and which Huskies will get drafted on Saturday's final day of the draft in Rounds 4-7.

Interesting decision

Goofy looking but it makes sense.

Many are already using these Guardian Caps in practice for added safety.

If they truly add to the safety of the players, then why wouldn't you use them in high velocity, bone crunching games?

Then there are these things

I did not know that

The Alabama DB was a Second Round pick at #41 by the New Orleans Saints.

Global American football updates . . .

Poland's DI is ready to ROCK!

Britain features these six big games
at three different levels of play

These would be AWESOME flag football
uniforms for Mexico's Leopardos!

Mexico's Auténtico Tigres UANL
were this season's Intermediate
level runner-ups

UANL stands for Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon.

Italy's DI Lazio Marines are
moving into a new stadium

The May 4th Serie A
Spanish Bowl XXX is looming

We finish with a few deep thoughts . . .

Been there, done that

Never thought about it in these terms

And then there were two . . .

And a feisty two at that!

Saturday is a Camarillo Cosmos track day as Mary competes in the Ventura County Youth Track Conference Junior Varsity Finals at Newbury Park High School.

Stay tuned . . .
