For our European friends, Groundhog Day is celebrated in the USA every year on the second of February. For the detailed reason for this day's importance in American culture go to:
On Groundhog Day 1967, Laurie and I had been dating for about 19 months. As a joke, I asked her to be my Groundhog and she said, "YES!" Thus a family tradition was born.
We quickly realized that if we celebrated this as our special day in February instead of Valentine's Day there could be some real advantages over the next 55 years.
First, the required gift of flowers would be much less costly.
Second, reservations at restaurants would be much easier to obtain.
Also, given the Law of Supply and Demand, restaurant meal prices would also be much less painful.
It works for us, so on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, we headed to Ventura for a good meal.

The games next weekend in Serie A will give us a much clearer picture of the true strength of the teams vying for Spain's the title in Spain's elite league.
Now for a strange result from the world of the University of Cambridge Pythons . . .
The Pythons are one of the teams that we have sent used jerseys to this past Fall. Our contact with the Pythons, Steve Guy, posted these three hilarious notes from Sunday's game on Facebook.

The field is 90yds long, 37yds wide, with 6yd endzones and NFL (rather than NCAA) hashmarks. Britball.
2. Kickoff now delayed.
City's home field is only 37yds wide. The officials want it widened and now City are frantically trying to source some paint to alter the field dimensions . . .

3. City have run out of paint. Game has been cancelled as the officials have ruled the field unplayable.
We are now heading home.
If Matt Stafford and Sean McVay aren't on their hands and knees next weekend in Los Angeles with a can of spray paint then we are all missing out.

Despite the Voltors being 0-2, I've noticed a lot of improvement in the club's overall fundamentals and especially footwork during the last two weeks of practice.
Now, we all hope that this good work can translate onto the field against the 1-2 Pioners this coming weekend.
