A Four Hour Lunch With an Old Friend

Monday, July 12, 2021

Wreceived a message over the weekend from an old friend that he would be in town for a few days visiting from his home in New Jersey.

Only one thing to do, lunch at Camarillo Cronies!

With Laurie, Mike and our
Jersey buddy Mike Botti

Mike and Mike coached together with us at Rio Mesa H.S. in the late 1990s.

Mike now lives in New Jersey where he is happily employed as a Principal at a middle school.

The four of us enjoyed a stroll down memory lane and catching up over a four hour meal at our old shared hangout, Cronies in Camarillo.

GOOD TIMES!

In EuroBall news . . .

The new European League of
Football continues to promote

They have scheduled an All-Star Game vs. a Team USA squad on October 3rd to conclude their inaugural season.

It should make for an interesting contest.

This from the defending
Italian DI Champions

The Milano Seamen have had a wild ride in their attempt to win the Italian Bowl for the third consecutive season.

First, this season DI is down to just seven teams from a high of 12 clubs in 2016 due to financial considerations and the pandemic.

The #2 seeded Seamen (6-2) were schedule to play the #3 Ducks Lazio (4-4) in a DI semi-final playoff game on Saturday, July 3rd at home.

The Ducks traveled by bus to Milan from Rome for the contest only to find out that one of their players tested positive for Covid-19. That forced the postponement of the semi-final for at least a ten day quarantine period to see if any other Lazio players were infected.

As a result, the game was re-scheduled to Tuesday July 13th, exactly ten days after the initial positive test.

I felt that this was a terrible road block to both teams as the winner would have to turn around and play the well rested #1 seeded Panthers Parma (9-0) in the 40th Italian Bowl this coming Saturday!

The Panthers won their semi-final game over the #4 Guelfi Firenze (4-5) by a score of 55-20. Since that game was played on July 4th, they would have the added advantage of two weeks of rest and recovery while the Seamen-Ducks winner would only have three days to recuperate from their semi-final skirmish.

It didn't seem quite fair to me.

Then the Italian Federation
made this announcement

Before leaving Rome at the end of the required ten day quarantine, more Ducks tested positive for Covid-19.

The Italian Federation (FIDAF) made the only decision left to them, the game was cancelled and the Seamen were awarded the final spot in the 40th Italian Bowl.

A big weekend of American
football is scheduled for this
weekend in city of Piacenza

On Friday, Silver Bowl XXVII, the DII championship game, will be played between the #2 seeded Giaguari Torino (8-0) and the #4 seeded Vipers Modena (7-1).

On Saturday, Italian Bowl XL, the DI championship contest, will see the #1 seeded Parma Panthers (9-0) take on the #2 seeded Seamen Milano (7-2).

These two clubs have already played two nail biters this year with the Panthers edging the Seamen in the last minute of play in Week #1, 24-20. The met again in Week #9 with the Parma squad squeaking by again 30-27.

Will the third time be the charm for the Seamen?
