Saturday, 21 March, 2015:
We spent the morning doing a few last minute things in preparation for our Senior team game tomorrow.
We were excited to have been invited to lunch by Cobra MLB Jorge Ortin Rosera. He picked us up at noon to whisk us away to his family's home in the rural outskirts of Murcia.
His village's ancient water wheel
When we arrived at his family's 100 year old home, Jorge's Father, Pepe, was already hard at work grilling meat and vegetables.
It looked good
and then Jorge took over the grill
Jorge grilled more meat and then . . .
. . . started work on a Murcian favorite,
Migas
Migas getting close to the finish
Migas is primarily a Winter time meal on the huerta, made simply with flour and water. Jorge let the migas cook in a combination of olive oil and all of the leftover juices from the meat that he had grilled.
Oh the flavor!!!
Our lunch bunch swelled to 11 people when we were joined by three more delightful couples who were long time friends of Jorge's parents.
The lunch table was set . . .
The friends had gathered . . .
And the food was on the table,
including a bed of Migas for the meat
Two extremely happy campers!
One of the desserts was orange slices
sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon
Our wonderful hosts,
Pepe, Maria del Carmen and Jorge
Family friend Angel sports a
Moustache to be envied
We had a great time over a three hour lunch full of good food, fine wine and great conversations. How the two of us love meals like this with warm and friendly people like these.
GRACIAS PEPE, MARIA DEL CARMEN and JORGE!!!
After the meal, we were off to Cehegin, about a 45 minute drive from Murcia, for our Junior team's game at 7:30 p.m.
Big Game
Here come the Cobras
Snazzy Down Marker . . .
. . . Matched by equally snazzy Chains
Rocky start
The Cobras got off to a rough start trailing 0-13 early in the second period before finally awakening.
Thanks to some fine passing, Murcia was only down 7-13 at the half.
FIRE UP!!!
Cobra Team President, Alejandro Sotomayor was on the sidelines firing up the Juniors who responded well to his encouraging words in the second half as the Juniors came home with a thrilling 20-19 victory.
Up next is our Seniors (2-2) game at home at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday against the Santurtzi Coyotes (2-3) who beat us in Bilbao 14-7 in our season opener back on January 25th.
That will not be the end of our day as we have tickets to Sunday night's 5:00 p.m. bullfight in Murcia's Plaza de Toros.
GO COBRAS GO!!!
