First and foremost today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister Marilyn!
Mary and Laurie joined me in singing a phone call rendition of the traditional Happy Birthday song to her that would have made the Mormon Tabernacle Choir proud.
In the afternoon, we headed up to warm and sunny Ojai's Soule Park for the Las Colinas Mustangs' Cross Country team's second meet of the season.
Mary arrived in Ojai with
a good attitude and a smile
Warming up with her mates
Gearing up mentally
Getting the heart rate up
The Soule Park course is much more
challenging than last week's in Ventura
Add the heat today to the course's topography and we all saw a difficult two miles for all of these young ladies.
My first photo-op spot about a
quarter of a mile into the race
You know, this would be a
good venue for bird watching
which Laurie likes doing
HERE THEY COME!
The Mustangs lead runner with hair aflying!
Another Mustang with similar wild tresses
Mary's first pass by me
On her second pass, she was strolling
Are those two Rosie Ruiz inspired
boys trying to join the race late?
The drive to the finish line starts
It's a battle!
Mary pulling ahead and . . .
. . . charging to the tape
Her time today was 22:25.26.
This placed her 81st in the field of 109 middle school girls in the race. Versus just other sixth grade girls today she placed 14th out of 25 runners.
Cross Country can be grueling. Mary is still learning to compete in her new sport. PROUD OF HER!
Our sports afternoon/evening continued as Michael joined me to watch the Glendale-Royal game to watch Royal's Gun Wing-T offense in action.

Glendale Dynamiters. AWESOME!
When I was in high school, the Glendale New-Press covered the Dynamiters games but had issues with the length of the local high school's unique moniker in their sports section headlines. Thus Glendale was referred to as the "Nitros" in those self-same headlines.
Dynamiters and Nitros are two great nicknames!
We were ready for some revamped,
old-school Delaware Wing-T misdirection
Michael wearing an old Rio Mesa H.S. shirt with the traditional Wing-T helmet design that the University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens made famous under coaches Dave Nelson, Tubby Raymond and Ted Kempski.
At Royal H.S., due to the Olympic
track configuration, fans are
FAR from the action on the field
Olympic tracks have flatter curves that make their infields much wider than traditional high school tracks.
Royal on Offense
Royal's Shotgun Wing-T . . .
. . . misdirecting as always!
The Dynamiters/Nitros on Offense
We ran into our old coaching
colleague, Andy Andreolli, at Halftime
FINAL SCORE
Royal (5-0) - 49
Glendale (2-5) - 12
This is often my view of the
football world too
A good day of sports binging yet again, we are blessed.
Don't forget our L.A. Rams this weekend . . .
Los Angeles Rams (1-1) at
Denver Broncos (1-1)
