A full afternoon and evening of sports was on our agenda today.
It started at Ventura's Kimball Park for granddaughter Mary's first ever middle school cross country meet.

The girl on the bicycle sets the pace and guides the runners on their correct path.
There were 113 sixth, seventh and eighth Grade girls in this race. Mary is in the sixth grade.
This race was two miles in length, a total of two laps around the park's clearly marked one mile loop.

SHE FINISHED!
She finished her two mile race in 21:26.05.
Overall, that placed her 84th out of the 113 girls in the race.
Versus only the other sixth grade girls running today, she finished 14th out of 27 runners in her class.
For Mary's first time Cross Country race, I thought that she did well. Now it's a matter of building on and improving on her new found experience in next Friday's meet at Ojai's Soule Park.

After Mary's Cross Country meet, I returned to Camarillo to pick up Jacob and head over to Rio Mesa H.S. to view the 52nd renewal of "The Black and Blue Rivalry Game."

When we arrived at Rio Mesa, the first thing that we noticed were the outstanding murals spread throughout the campus.

In his Senior year as a Spartan athlete, Rich was named to the All-C.I.F.-Southern Section teams in football, basketball and baseball.

It was a fun game to watch and I had a great time reconnecting with several teachers, coaches and referees at the game.
