A Wonderful Dinner Party, a Dance Recital and a Few Odds and Ends

Sat.-Mon., Dec. 16-18, 2023

We enjoyed an excellent weekend in the company of good friends and family. What more could one possibly want?

As we drove to Altadena for a much anticipated dinner at the home of Susan and Michael D'Antuono, I had a thought.

The wondrous things that happen
driving on the 210 East are never ending

While Laurie and I were on our way to joining Joanne and Paul Sabolić and Sharon and Chuck Fata in what would turn out to be a rousing, sumptuous meal, my "Usual Suspects" were out on the town too.

Michael and Jacob were at SoFi Stadium
for the Third Annual LA Bowl

Boise State Broncos (8-5)
Mountain West Conference Champions
vs.
UCLA Bruins (7-5)
Seventh Place in the PAC-12 Conference

They arrived at SoFi long before kickoff to run through their pre-game responsibilities.

The Camarillo Stingers Pop Warner organization had been offered the opportunity to help with the gigantic flag that would cover the field during the National Anthem.

#99 is Jacob about to start the
undulating flag motion

It may have been a Boise State-UCLA game
but Jacob is all Huskies, ALL THE TIME!

What is Jacob doing on the JumboTron?

The paparazzi are RELENTLESS!

For those of you keeping score, UCLA (8-5) beat Boise State (8-6), 35-22.

Meanwhile, in Altadena . . .

We were enjoying life

Paul Sabolić took this photo of us all gathered around the D'Antuono's beautiful dinner table.

Susan's outstanding meal started with delicious hors d'oeuvres out on their patio by a warm fire pit.

We moved indoors for a dinner that consisted of two amazing main courses, a seafood paella and a beef braciole covered by a rich tomato based sauce. Of course, the wine pairings were perfect to no one's surprise.

Susan's rich chocolate mousse cake desserts were the perfect ending to a truly amazing home cooked meal.

As good as all of the meal was, it paled in comparison to the fun conversations, tall tales and fond reminiscing by old friends gathered around a table once again after not seeing each other in some time.

It was a wonderful evening to be sure.

Thank You, Michael and Susan!

On the drive home, I realized that the Los Angeles Rams were playing on Sunday.

Washington Commanders (4-9)
at
Los Angeles Rams (6-7)

Another good opportunity for a Rams win even if they were playing on the beach at Santa Monica by the looks of it.

After Saturday night's feast, I had to think about getting my diet back on the straight and narrow.

This is an EXCELLENT insight!

Our Danbury Mint/Washington Huskies
Christmas ornament hall tree

We added the 2023 ornament Sunday morning. Our friend Paul Sabolić annually gives us one of these ornaments proclaiming Santa's love for the University of Washington.

What did this year's ornament look like, you ask?

Why it's this fine, old pick-up
truck on the left

Thank You, Paul!

For the fourth consecutive Sunday, we were going to enjoy the performing arts in the afternoon.

Three weeks ago it was enjoying The 39 Steps play in Santa Paula. The next week we were in Newbury Park for Jacob and Mary's piano recital. Last Sunday it was Santa Barbara for Grace Fisher's Winter Showcase at the Granada Theater.

On this chilly Sunday afternoon, we headed to Camarillo's Rancho Campana H.S. to enjoy Mary's dance recital.

Mary was in the seventh act of . . .

. . . a 19 act recital

We rightfully anticipated a fun afternoon of entertainment by all of the children.

Mary before the recital started
was confidant and happy

When her group's turn came to perform, she did GREAT!

Three happy performing
arts aficionados

Mary and her proud family

The siblings were all smiles
today which was wonderful!

Good news for the Huskies . . .

UW Husky Michael Penix Jr. was
named the FIRST TEAM All-American
QB on the Walter Camp team!

Finally.

This honor now gives Penix Jr. the potential path to the College Football Hall of Fame when he first becomes eligible for induction in 2033.

Big American football game today on the African continent . . .

Team Kenya White Rhinos
vs.
Team Uganda Generals

Team Kenya one step closer to
the IFAF World Championship
Tournament in Germany next Summer

Now, about those pesky Los Angeles Rams . . .

This catch be TE Tyler Higbee
was clinic worthy

The surprising Rams move to 7-7
and are in middle of the playoff hunt

The Rams host the also 7-7
New Orleans Saints on Thursday
with major playoff implications

It is the Rams last home game of the regular season and we have not been to one of their games yet this season.

Hmmmm . . .

I love the Holiday Spirit

The Saga of the Nike football shoes giveaway continues globally . . .

Last week we shipped a box of shoes
to Italy's Cecina Trappers

We also dropped off shoes to
deserving, large footed players
at Buena H.S. last week

On Monday, the Pacifica H.S. program
received several pairs of new Nikes . . .

. . . as did the newest school in Oxnard,
the Del Sol Jaguars

I get this kind of feeling each time
we help a football program improve

Of course, the general UW Husky Fever continues to grow daily as the Sugar Bowl game draws closer . . .

A MUCH better choice than
Michigan, Texas or certainly Alabama
don't you agree?

Two more weeks of hype await

It's been a long time

Two buff squads to be sure

I'm not liking the look in that
Longhorn's eyes

Don't get ahead of ourselves,
beat Texas first!

I must say that the Wolverines prowess in the Scoring Defense category is worrisome.

One fan's view of a revamped
Mountain West Conference someday
that includes Oregon State and
Washington State

I like how he used old school logos in this depiction.

From our five years living in
wonderful Italy with many amazing
Italians, we say, VERAMENTE!

1,000% TRUE!

We had a great three days indeed.
