A Cat, Basketball Practice and LOTS of All-American Teams

Mon.-Fri., Dec. 11-15, 2023
We lived life at a slower, more relaxed pace this week.

Wednesday though was a busy one with the grandchildren.

After school that day we took Mary to Camarillo's Purrmaid Café and Adoption Center that specializes in helping cats find homes.

Mary wants a cat for Christmas

Mary with Minnie,
her cat of choice

Since Vanessa, Mary's mother, is allergic to cats. This whole adoption seems a bit weird to me.

Mary's answer is that the cat stays at our home so that she can visit it daily.

I'm not 100% sold on this project.

Wednesday night saw me at Jacob's
Orangemen basketball practice

Jacob is the one with the long hair and headband playing defense.

Jacob really enjoys defending

Denying a clear path to the basket

I needed this on Tuesday

As I continue my one meal-a-day diet, this week's Taco Tuesday was problematic.

I had been invited to attend the El Camino Real H.S. Football Banquet held at the Canyon Club in Agoura.

Great food but no tacos. I'll need therapy at some point I'm sure.

Lots of Washington Huskies CFP
news came in daily

Some of it was boastful

Some of it was just plain silly

Some of it with pride

We may need a set of these
come January 1st

Various All-American teams were announced this week.

Here are the Huskies on the Associated Press All-American team.

The Huskies Great WR

The Huskies QB listed behind only
LSU's Heisman Trophy winning
QB Jayden Daniels

Solid honors for a UW
OL, Edge Rusher and LB

America LOVES the Huskies!

I love the tenacity of Florida State Nation against all the odds.

Next up, the Football Writers Association of America selections as the season's best collegiate players.

First Team again

Still #2 to Daniels

A little more love for this
Huskies Offensive Lineman

Great season for this UW WR
but not good enough for
All-American recognition

The Best Offensive Lineman in
the PAC-12 wears Purple and Gold

The Sporting News had the UW's
passing duo in the same two
spots as the AP and the FWAA

More silliness

Grandson Jacob is a HUGE
Michael Penix Jr. fan

He is not happy with the post-season awards as Penix Jr. has, in Jacob's opinion, been snubbed repeatedly.

Penix Jr. was not the PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Year nor the First Team All-PAC-12 QB. Oregon's QB, Bo Nix, beat him out on both counts.

The excellent UW QB was second in the final Heisman Trophy voting and in all of the All-American teams announced to date to the already mentioned Jayden Daniels of LSU.

Jacob asked me if I believed that Penix Jr. would someday be in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately, the answer so far is no.

The first criteria for consideration into the Hall of Fame based in Atlanta, Georgia is that the player in question must been named First Team All-American on at least one of the Hall's recognized All-American teams.

So far, no dice.

Rome Odunze, WOW!

The American Football Coaches Association
had none of the 13-0, PAC-12 Champion and
#2 ranked Huskies on the First Team

Respect, as 13-0, ACC Champion Florida State also found out, is hard to come by no matter what one does on the field.

Michael Penix Jr.'s 2023 passing stats
307/466, 65.9%, 4,218 Yards, 33 TDs

I would gladly take his level of excellence at the QB position every year.

DAMN IT, Penix Jr. is #2 again

Below is the entire American Football Coaches Association's 2023 FBS All-American list.

It starts with the Special Teams

No Huskies

No Texas, Alabama or Florida State players are on this First Team Offense list either.

Three Huskies on the Second Team
but still no Bama or FSU players

No Huskies but Texas, Alabama
and Florida State appear

The Huskies Defense gets shutout

Is Husky Nation getting
a bit paranoid?

Perhaps a little, me thinks . . .

The internet asked which UW logo Dawg fans liked the most over the years.

I vote for the 1995-2001 logo

How about you?

The fierce 1919-1922 logo when the UW's teams were known as the Sun Dodgers was a close second for me.

Many enter the Portal with
high hopes, but sadly, only
the best few leave it

This one did exit the Portal much
to Huskies fans delight as the heir
apparent to the Michael Penix Jr.

Sounds like a wonderful addition to the 2024 UW roster in these transfer heavy times we are experiencing.

These are scurrilous words for
devoted Wolverine fans

The Rose Bowl game between #1, 13-0, BIG-10 Champion Michigan and #4, 12-1, SEC Champion Alabama just got a tad more interesting.

On to NFL and international football news . . .

The beloved L.A. Rams uniforms
of my youth

It was announced this week that
SoFi Stadium will host
Super Bowl LXI again in 2027

The 2024 season will see an NFL game
for the first time in South America

São Paulo, Brazil will do an excellent job in hosting this event I'm sure.

Which two teams will journey south has yet to be announced.

Some EuroBall news . . .

Ten pairs of Nike football cleats
were shipped this week to Italy's
Cecina Trappers American football team

These are part of the Nike shoes that California Lutheran University donated to the EuroBall cause recently.

What is the best way for one of Poland's Sieradz Warriors American football players to celebrate their birthday?

By wearing an Agoura High School . . .

. . . Chargers game jersey, of course!

These jerseys were donated to the EuroBall cause by Agoura H.S. in 2022 and were put to good use by several teams all over the EuroBall scene.

Thursday Night Football's game
was not competitive at all

After being shutout by the Minnesota Vikings (7-6), 3-0, on Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders (6-8) bludgeoned the hapless Los Angeles Chargers (5-9) just four nights later.

The Raiders led 42-0 at the half.

Funny

The inevitable happened Friday morning

Final thoughts from the net . . .

Agreed

100% TRUE!

After a week without tacos, next
week's Taco Tuesday will be even
GREATER!
