Lots of Fun to Report Yet Again

Sun.-Tues., May 21-23, 2023

The usually slow paced lifestyle that is the soul of Camarillo was in full swing these past three days. We had a chance then to enjoy some of life's simple pleasures.

Mary and Jacob on their way
to school Tuesday morning

A morning without even one iota of a sibling rivalry on this overcast day was such a joy.

My sister Linda's photo of our
Mother working some of her Arts and
Crafts magic was heart warming too

Having a two hour "cup of coffee" with
long time friend David Lassen was
another source of joy

David was a long time sports writer for the Thousand Oaks News-Chronicle and the Ventura County Star who covered many of our games over the years.

He was visiting the area for a week while living full time in Wisconsin and now working as an editor, writer and photographer for Trains, THE magazine of railroading.

Note the newest edition of the magazine with a lengthy article written by David entitled "Putting It Together: A trio of projects remakes the commuter rail system for the New York MTA."

I was excited to hear that  the former
Rio Mesa H.S. Head Coach being hired
for the same position at Ventura College

David is one of the good guys and I'm sure that he will continue to be successful at the junior college level.

More news from the world of the world of the European League of Football . . .

If you are in Milan this coming
weekend, stop by the Piazza Duomo
for an exhibition of American football
courtesy of the ELF's Milano Seamen

Possible nicknames for the ELF's
newest franchise in Madrid that will
start play in 2024

Since a bear is the symbol of the city, Bears would seem logical.

Our friend Bart Iaccarino sold a 60%
interest in his Barcelona Dragons
to this investors' group

The Dragons were one of the EFL's original eight franchises in 2021. I pray that this is a good move for everyone involved with the Dragons organization.

Why has no NFL team opted
to pair up with Italy?

Speaking of Italian football . . .

A BIG game on Sunday, with
massive playoff implications, for
the Skorpions (3-4) who host the
Milano Rhinos (4-3)

It could be a WILD final weekend to
regular season of American football
in Italy

If the 3-4 Varese Skorpions beat the 4-3 Milano Rhinos (a toss-up contest on Sunday), if the 3-4 Legnano Frogs beat the 0-6 Emilia Stainless Steel Warriors (likely on Wednesday) and if the 3-4 Lazio Ducks can somehow upset the 6-1 Parma Panthers (highly unlikely on Sunday), then we would have a four way tie for fourth place in the final standings. Only three of those four squads would make the playoffs. Should this happen, the tie breaking process will be interesting.

If the Skorpions lose to the Rhinos, the Frogs win and the Ducks lose then the final standings would include:
4. Milano Rhinos 5-3
5. Legnano Frogs 4-4
6t. Varese Skorpions 3-5
6t. Lazio Ducks 3-5

In this scenario, logically, the Skorpions would get the sixth and final playoff spot based on their April 30th, 41-34 victory over the Ducks.

Hold on, when has logic ever figured into any major Italian decision?

There are other possibilities, stay tuned . . .
