College Football Showcase at Pacifica H.S.

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Before going into the details of Tuesday's events, I do need to post a couple of photos from Monday morning's Rio Mesa H.S. retired teachers' monthly breakfast at the Eggs and Things Restaurant in Camarillo.

Our group gathers every month
on the second Monday of each month

We have been having these breakfast meetings for well over a decade now but because of everybody's busy schedules, our gatherings usually attract about seven to ten RMHS retired staff members.

On Monday we set an all-time
record with 18 of us in the house!

It was all good times with good food and great people!

On to Tuesday night's big deal-of-the-day . . .

Jacob joined Michael and I at
Pacifica H.S. in the late afternoon

There were several college coaches in attendance scouting out the talented athletes from Newbury Park H.S., Notre Dame H.S., Pacifica H.S. and Westlake H.S.

There were one-on-one pass rush vs. pass blocking drills and one-on-one receiver vs. LB or DB contests.

The four schools also engaged in a series of short seven-on-seven passing competitions to fill out the evenings festivities.

Newbury Park DL pass
rushing a Pacifia OL

A NPHS DL caught trying to do
a spin move that was unsuccessful
against this PHS Offensive Lineman

Critique: The PHS OL should take
a short Kick Step back and not out
at the NPHS DL

The Pacifica player also needs a much more violent hand punch to have any chance for success.

Just my opinion . . .

Ready for Battle

Westlake OL in blue vs. an NPHS DL,
keep your pad level down young man

WHS OL needs to bend his knees more
vs. this Notre Dame DL on the right

One-on-One pass drill
Pacifica with the green number
on his back vs. NPHS

Pacifica WR vs Notre Dame CB

One big takeaway from tonight is that Pacifica has a ton of athletic WRs and DBs.

GREAT speed rush by this
NDHS DL who never stops his
feet from running to the QB

These two had a GREAT battle on this rep

Good get-off by the ND DE and
a nice kick step by the Pacifica OT

I'm liking the OT's body position
here as he has the ND player's
body squarely between his feet

Same rep but now the ND players
speed to power move has the Pacifica
players feet and hips all out of whack

Still, it was an excellent, competitive rep between these two young warriors to end a good evening of American football action.

Stay tuned, Jacob has his weekly Camarillo Stingers practice on Wednesday night.
