A Family Oriented Las Vegas Weekend

Fri.-Sun., November 4-6, 2022

Grandson Kevin was playing his last regular season soccer match in Las Vegas on Saturday, so we were off to Nevada to see him play with his Phoenix teammates against the mighty Lightning Wolves.

After about two hours of driving, we needed to stop for some healthy nutrition.

We stopped in the interesting desert
town of Boron for breakfast

We liked Old Town Boron's charm

The 20 Mule Cafe

A GREAT stop for a good country breakfast if you like perfectly cooked eggs over easy, golden brown hash browns and a slab of crisp, salty bacon.

Which I do!

The pancakes were only so-so.

Talk about some seriously healthy nutrition!

Boron's Aerospace Museum is
right across from the 20 Mule Cafe

Nice jet for a young boy to explore

Since neither Laurie nor I are young boys so we didn't.

The Twenty Mule Team Museum

Lots of artifacts can be found here about the local history and the history of borax mining in Death Valley and Boron.

It is also located across the street from the 20 Mule Cafe.

Boron's HUGE earth mover

It is located next door to the 20 Mule Cafe which makes our breakfast stop THE place to be when visiting the greater Boron megalopolis!

One simply can NOT cross the
Mojave Desert without stopping
at Eddie's World

So true . . .

We made it to Casa Contreras in Las Vegas by mid-afternoon with time to spend with Jenn, Andrew and Kevin before getting into the evening's activities.

Andrew had to go referee an
AYSO U14 soccer match

The rest of us headed to
Kevin's elementary school for
their Fall Festival

for prizes of untold wealth

Kevin wanted to win this
Star Wars themed basket in
 the Festival's raffle

No luck.

The Festival's Cake Walk was
held in this auditorium

Kevin was a winner here taking home a delicious butter cream cake.

We ALL had a good time tonight

The Washington Huskies were on TV
when we all got back to Casa Contreras
against 24the Ranked Oregon State in
a rare Friday night game

Well, not so rare if you are part of the PAC-12's TV package.

It was a hard fought game
with the UW kicking a Field Goal
to win with only eight seconds
left in the game

The Huskies are now 7-2 while the Beavers drop to 6-3.

On Saturday, Gameday, we lost Andrew who had to referee five games starting at 8:00 a.m. He covered 12.45 miles according to his phone app during his day as an arbiter.

We arrived towards the end of
Andrew's third game

Jenn gathering the Phoenix for
their 12:30 p.m. game

Andrew is the Phoenix' Head Coach but also had to ref the game. His assistant was out of town today so Jenn ran the team.

No game faces here.

A run to the ball turns into . . .

. . . a battle for the ball

Corner Kick

Why we were shin guards

The ball seems to draw a crowd

Lots of running in soccer

Father and son moment

Get to the ball Kevin!

Breaking away again

Dribble

Pass

Hmm, what should I do?

Yet another Corner Kick

This was a good 1-on-1 situation

I'm Ready

On sides

It was a good game for the Phoenix as they led 5-1 over the Lightning Wolves at the Half.

In the Second Half, Andrew and Jenn adjusted the lineup in an effort to keep the score down.

It worked, the Final Score was Phoenix 6 - Lightning Wolves 1.

Afterwards, Andrew still had to ref
his fifth and final game of the day

He had help from two of his Phoenix
players including Kevin in a
U10 Boys game

Last minute instructions

At the U10 level, Andrew has more
than just refereeing duties to perform

Assistant Referee Kevin
deep in thought and focused on the game

GOOD TIMES INDEED!

In Italy, the Varese Skorpions
U18 team had a game on Saturday

The U18 Skorpions dropped to 1-1 while
the Torino Giaguari improved to 2-1

last Saturday's attack on Michigan
players after their game

Sunday was a day to sit in front of Casa Contreras' 70" TV and watch NFL football all day.

Andrew's Las Vegas Raiders (2-6) blew a 17-0 lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-6) and lost by a Final Score of 27-20.

On to the Rams game . . .

The Los Angeles Rams (3-4) at
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-5)

Sunday started out with so much promise for us.

Then Tom Brady took over
with seconds left in the game

Our long season continues . . .
