An Overall Uneventful Week in Laid Back Camarillo

Mon.-Wed., November 7-16, 2022

tranquil week that was thankfully interrupted by music and, what else, American football.

Camarillo H.S. was THE place
to be on Thursday night

It turned out that Camarillo H.S. was holding its first ever high school marching band competition this evening and they had made a connection with Dr. Craig McKenzie, the Director of the San Jose State University Marching Band, to have his band put on a demonstration to close out the evening.

This was great news for us as Dr. Craig is an old friend who we don't see nearly often enough.

SJSU has a GREAT drum section!

Dr. Craig on the ladder with an
agile drum major approaching

His band gave a stirring performance
while giving the high school band members
an opportunity to see that their talents
can help them in college if they so desire

Friday was the Veterans Day holiday and the SJSU band would continue their trek south to march in Friday's Main Street Parade in Disneyland before heading to San Diego to perform at Saturday night's San Jose State vs. San Diego State football game.

Nice road trip Craig!

Friday Night Lights
Newport Harbor Sailors 7-4
at
Newbury Park Panthers 9-2

Newport Harbor in the white jerseys
brought a tough running game to the game

Early on the Panthers defense was up
to the task as NPHS led 21-7 thanks to
the pin point passing of Frosh QB
Brady Smigiel

Modern technology on the NPHS
sideline helped the coaches
make game time adjustments

The problem came in the Second Quarter when QB Brady Smigiel was knocked out of the game with a concussion.

The drop-off in QB play was significant as the Panthers had heavily relied on Smigiel's arm all season long (46 TD passes, 3,479 yards, 66% completion percentage).

From the point of Smigiel's injury on, it was all Newport Harbor as they won the game 49-28.

The Sailors (8-4) will play Cypress (12-0) this weekend in a Semi-Final Division IV game.

With Dave Hilliard on the
NPHS sideline

Dave and his brother Ron both played for us when we coached at Thousand Oaks H.S. back in the 1970s.

Dave's children attended NPHS.

Good to see him and have some time to catch up.

Washington Huskies 7-2
at
Oregon Ducks 8-1

Talk about playing in a hostile environment, from all I've been told a UW game at Oregon ranks right up there with the worst in the country.

Husky QB Michael Penix Jr. came
out firing throwing for 408 yards
and 2 TDs to lead the Huskies . . .

. . . to a HUGE win!

Nice to be ranked in the top 15
after the last few years

Michael, Jacob and I will make the
trip to Seattle for the Colorado game

Then there is the Rams . . .

. . . NOT good

News from the net . . .

Always good to know
your proper cheese pairings

I can live with this extremely
positive conscience adjustor
